Just finished Hogwarts Legacy (received free). Unsurprisingly, effectively brings a formerly-beloved world to life--but gameplay structure completely mismatches setting. Design-wise, the game is successful in isolation, but an abysmal failure against what could have been. #games #gaming #review

All Avalanche had to do was make Bully in Hogwarts--the design work was basically done for them already--but instead they tried to make The Witcher 3 for some reason. Exploring an open-world magical castle is really cool, but the game absolutely despises the idea of immersive role playing.

Just finished Guardians of the Galaxy. Recommended! The very template of a single player action game: lively gameplay, absorbing plot, believable characters, and no filler content. A refreshingly focused experience. #games #gaming #review #marvel #gotg

Just finished #Deathloop . Recommended. An authentically creative premise with solid gameplay that drips with style. Unfortunately, also proof that an immersive sim without quicksave is basically worthless. #games #gaming #review

Finally: allow infusing your gear within a level itself, like at a machine posted outside the tunnel doors. It's crazy that you can kill a boss, collect their loot, and then not be able to keep it because you didn't walk around holding "F" on enough random objects and now the level is over

Deathloop has amazing level design and moment to moment gameplay (which, it's Arkane, so of course) but all of its wider gameplay systems and decisions pissed me tf off. What a huge, huge shame.

All of a day's manual saves erase when the loop resets. So now we have diagetic quicksaves, but death still has weight. Users aren't discouraged from taking risks, and always have a chance to fail without losing ANY progress. But some risk (and tension) is still present.

Another change: get rid of invasions. Most people would disagree with me but I thought they were a stupid waste of time that were annoying and held up whatever goal/investigation I was focused on at the time.

There's one major change that would have been WAY better for me, and a few minor ones: First, get rid of the revive system. One death = start over. However, allow quicksaving. Do it diagetically, as a feature of the hackimajig. Give it a screen where users can manually save + button for quicksave

Alter death animations so there is a "last chance" to quickload, where Colt whips out his hackimajig and presses the button. Within the story, these saves fit perfectly: the anomaly allows for taking snapshots in time which can be restored at any moment, within one day's loop.

I LOVE the idea of an exploration-focused immersive sim puzzle game, and implementing that idea within the frame of a timeloop is brilliant. But Deathloop couldn't commit to the puzzle elements while disincentivizing immsersive-sim-style gameplay creativity through its systems.

Just finished Paradise Killer. Recommended! An endlessly intriguing open world detective game in an absurdly creative setting. #games #gaming #review #paradisekiller

Just finished #Thief (2014). Recommended. An acceptable stealth game in its own right, but fails to understand or effectively replicate the signature aspects of the Thief series—while often feeling rushed or unfinished besides. #games #gaming #review

Just finished Harold Halibut. Recommended! This gorgeous adventure is charmingly plodding at first, but the sluggish pacing detracts throughout the midgame until the story collects itself in the last quarter, ties its themes together, and finishes with aplomb #games #gaming #review #haroldhalibut

Just finished Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Recommended! A slick but supremely faithful recreation of the first three Crash games, which successfully captures the essence of the trilogy while introducing a number of great improvements. #games #gaming #review #crash #crashbandicoot

Just finished #Doom 3. Recommended! A claustrophobic twist on the original Doom formula that, while an impressive technical showcase for its time, now feels at once repetitive and timeworn—yet fascinating and compelling. #games #gaming #review #doom3

Just finished #Ghostrunner 2. Recommended! Expands the setting successfully and the gameplay meagerly. Dharma finally feels like an actual place that real people live in, but the tightly composed mechanics lose focus in the face of too many options. #games #gaming #review

Just finished #Ghostrunner . Recommended! An exhilarating first person combat platformer with killer movement tech. Not nearly as cool as it thinks it is. #games #gaming #review

Just finished Sorry We're Closed. Recommended! A queer, punk take on retro survival horror as popularized by Silent Hill. Stylish and thought-provoking. #games #gaming #review #sorrywereclosed

Just finished Cruelty Squad. Recommended! Despite complete user hostility, Cruelty Squad remains incredibly fascinating and engrossing—proof of the total eminence of the immersive sim genre. #games #gaming #review #crueltysquad

Just finished Nobody Wants to Die. Recommended. Mind-blowing technical presentation and an "ambitious" premise maintain intrigue throughout, despite a story that talks past the player while constantly slamming its own face into the wall. #games #gaming #review #nobodywantstodie

to objectively determine if the story is actually written in a way that makes sense, or if things only seem to make sense because they already knew how it was supposed to go. For example, with one character, not only was I unsure whether they were supposed to be real or in the protagonist's head, /

I wasn't even sure if I was supposed to be unsure about whether the character was real or in the protagonist's head. I don't think I was--but the narrative presentation is so muddy that basic story aspects like characterization are miscommunicated. Just, an incredibly, incredibly bizarre experience.

Seriously, character dialogue often makes no sense, with subsequent lines feeling like they belong in different conversations or were recorded at different times. Often the very intentions of the storytellers are unclear, as if it were edited by somebody too close to the concept /

Just finished Universe for Sale. Recommended! Captivating and original, Universe for Sale weaves a compelling narrative against a beautifully rendered and fascinating world. #games #gaming #review #universeforsale

Just finished The Master's Pupil. Not recommended. A beautiful, creative tribute to Monet, but not actually much fun. Core puzzle mechanics get old quickly, aren't expanded on, and can be inconsistent; exploits and intended solutions become indistinguishable #games #gaming #review #themasterspupil

Just finished #Samorost 3. Recommended! Gorgeous and whimsical, Samorost 3 is a joyous point-and-click adventure that melds music, art, and interaction in a beautiful, unique way. #games #gaming #review

Just played Felix the Reaper. Not recommended. Strangely unsatisfying. The core puzzle mechanics are not well-conceived, and the tone is grating, like the game is trying too hard to be funny. #games #gaming #review #felixthereaper

Just played Alone in the Dark 3. Not recommended. Mechanically, no significant improvements over the second. Less focus on combat is gratefully welcomed, but it seems to have been balanced against even fewer sensible puzzles. #games #gaming #review #aloneinthedark

Just played Alone in the Dark 2. Not recommended. Despite a few improvements, overall, the sequel is even worse than the first. Bafflingly leans into the horrible combat, making the game both more frustrating and less scary. #games #gaming #review #aloneinthedark

Just finished Alone in the Dark (1992). Not recommended. This revolutionary survival-horror is historically fascinating, but—due to its infuriating controls and propensity for soft-locking the player—a very rough experience today. #games #gaming #review #aloneinthedark

Just finished Bendy and the Ink Machine. Not recommended. 𝘉𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘺 isn't terrible, but the nonsensicality of its story and setting, along with its total lack of individuality, make it rather uninteresting and—crucially—not at all scary. #games #gaming #review #bendy #bendyandtheinkmachine

Just finished Boxes: Lost Fragments. Recommended! More addictive, bite-sized puzzles from the creators of Doors. These tactile, mechanics-based mysteries never get old to me. #games #gaming #review #boxes #boxeslostfragments

Just finished The Spirit and the Mouse. Recommended! Sweet but somewhat repetitive. A charming diversion that desperately needs a skip cutscene button. #games #gaming #review #thespiritandthemouse

Just finished #Viewfinder . Recommended! An engaging first-person puzzler with a brilliant core mechanic, the depths of which are never fully explored. #games #gaming #review

Just finished #Horses . Recommended! Severely discomforting. A lack of thematic focus somewhat minimizes the effectiveness of its intense content; nevertheless, a fascinating use of the medium artistically. #games #gaming #review

Just finished Dragon Age Origins. Not recommended. Phenomenal character writing is all that is on offer here; miserable combat and laborious, repetitive quests left me speedhacking my way through just to see the ending. #games #gaming #review #dragonage #dragonageorigins

Just finished Death Stranding. Recommended! Messy and strange, but possesses an utterly unique, genre-defying vision which it is beyond successful in executing. Fascinating to see so much effort and funding behind such an incomparable conceit. #games #gaming #review #deathstranding

Just played Wasteland 2. Not recommended. Although at first engaging and nostalgic, Wasteland 2 becomes offensively, unbearably long. The time investment the game demands becomes so absurdly large that all interest in any aspect of the game completely dissipates. #games #gaming #review #wasteland2

Just finished Pillars of Eternity. Recommended! This modern successor to Baldur's Gate combines classic CRPG depth with the intricate, consequential narratives Obsidian is known for. #games #gaming #review #pillarsofeternity

Just played #Nioh. Not recommended. Not a single interesting or redeemable aspect to be found. Agonizing to play. #games #gaming #review

Just finished Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition. Recommended! Deliciously cheeseable combat and fun, interesting characters often left me surprised by the amount of time passed after a play session. #games #gaming #review #baldursgate

Just finished The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. Recommended. Brutally flawed, especially in level design, but a fascinating world and satisfying gameplay loop make Daggerfall genuinely compelling for medieval RPG fans or historically-minded gamers. #games #gaming #review #daggerfall #theelderscrolls

April 9, 2026: Played XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Recommended. The core tactical gameplay is often thrilling but becomes relentless and repetitive after many hours. Way too long for the gameplay to remain interesting; would be perfect if the campaign was half as long. #games #gaming #review #xcom #xcomeu

Just finished Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. Recommended! While the name and concept promise a tactical depth that the gameplay never provides, Shadow Tactics—like any competent stealth game—still delivers plenty of enjoyment. #games #gaming #review #shadowtactics

Just finished Disco Elysium. Recommended! Electrifying. Cerebral and surreal; the world of Disco Elysium captures the mind and doesn't let go, even long after the story has ended. #games #gaming #review #discoelysium

Just finished Black Book. Recommended! Despite the inherently burdensome deckbuilder genre, every aspect of Black Book beautifully ties into its resplendent celebration of Slavic folklore and storytelling. #games #gaming #review #blackbook

"...although changing to communication between machine and man conducted in the latter's native tongue would greatly increase the machine's burden, we have to challenge the assumption that this would simplify man's life." –Edsger W. Dijkstra

Just played Enter the Gungeon. Not recommended. The roguelike format yet remains undefeated in tedium. Although clearly a work of passion, never before has playing a game felt like such a complete waste of my time (although some have come close). #games #gaming #review #enterthegungeon

Just finished Rebel Galaxy. Recommended. Interesting artistic choices lend a great vibe, but gameplay is remarkably thin. Luckily, the number of main story missions is small, just wrapping up as the action begins to bore—at least when powering straight through. #games #gaming #review #rebelgalaxy
