Had an extremely dumb and tiny halloween video game idea, but if I am being honest with myself I am gonna spend that time making another foam tombstone if I do anything at all.

All the art content creators ostensibly bemoaning AI by saying “and now one person can create a clone in just one day” are being paid by AI companies to say that. Because it isn’t even close to being true, but if you repeat it enough times…

The black pit deep beneath Edinburgh where a ghost unclipped my tour lanyard, I shit you not. Usually there are not real ghosts on ghost tours?

Perhaps Freya is not being bleak enough. If you look at assembling cars or houses you can clearly see that design/craft that does not synergize with the automation becomes unaffordable and rare. So creative agency gets pushed out in a feedback loop.

automation is supposed to target things people within any given craft consider rote and tedious, things that have almost no creative agency but when you automate things those within the craft love doing, that help us grow as artists/thinkers/designers, you're removing humanity from the craft

You also cheat yourself on your reading comprehension and analysis. And you miss out on interesting tangents and inspirations from the primary sources.

I can’t help but think of streaming music at this point in the thread. It has been a boon for discoverability — most of these bands I would have never, ever wanted to buy their CD. But you gotta remember to not just stream music you love. You gotta go to their site and find a way to pay them.

I think it is true there are some rote, boring tasks AI is competent at. I think pretending that isn’t the case is a social thing not a factual thing. But the problem is AI can only do those things it is competent at because it stole from people.

I find searching documentation, dev blogs, reddit, stack overflow, and forums to be boring and rote sometimes. AI has consumed every source and absolutely can give an answer faster than search. But then those sources never get subscribers, or ad revenue, or followers. It is theft every prompt.

I would love a bespoke car and house, but will never afford one. I can and do afford paintings by unknown artists and hand-made video games and films. I am not going to buy art made by automation, but I don’t doubt that automation will make the hand-made films and games more expensive and rare.

Kenney hit the infamous "two billionaires with one post" achievement, remains very rare, also shows once again that money does not equal intelligence, capability, or insight: Kenney is obviously right.

Last I'll post about this, but Elon Musk disagrees with me. This means I am onto something, and I feel more valid in my opinion than ever.

Those of you who have never shipped a game - I'm curious what you think it means when in a game's credits you read "special thanks"

Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖

i judge for a few festivals, and i can safely say that the games that always stand out the most are ones with personal creative care taken in every aspect of the game. people say AI should replace this but you can’t automate intentionality or love. if you bank on that then you don’t understand art.

"WE ARE ALL ILHAN" is what I say because if you're looking for paperwork my dad filled out on my behalf as a child in the 90s, I can't help you. Shouldn't you have that? I guess you'll have to raid my home.

Genuinely the thing I'm trying to train up the most because I always think that with enough exploration, consideration, and experience, the best decision will be clear. But you have to make the clarity.
