The last time I played Deus Ex was during the pandemic, out of sheer perversity. And now, a few years later, this line hits really hard:

hotlinking just means loading an image from a server you don't control, rather than hosting it yourself. it uses up someone else's bandwidth (which they have to pay for) while your site gets the benefit and a lot of websites combated this by replacing hotlinked image URLs with something like this
