Overdrive is rate limiting me on audiobooks in case you wondered what level I'm on

honestly heartwarming seeing people rally around mass effect even though i don't genuinely believe it can be saved

I'm making actual progress in 5 minute increments of playing Metroid

Not to be a doomer but I wonder if we're just watching the end of gaming consoles

Between how little good feeling I have for Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo I guess it's high time but damn

Romance and horror are like cousins. Romance promises you the ending will be happy and you can chill and enjoy the ride. Horror promises you that everyone's gonna have a bad fucking time so you can chill and find out exactly how. The tension is loaded in a specific way.

Anyway Parasite's Wake is really good so far I'm so excited for when I get to not be at work later.

Impulse joining a pern roleplay is working out for me (bunch of people my age or older)

Personally, I think "literature" literature is when someone has a thought they want to share but in order for you to understand exactly what they mean they're going to have to build hundreds of pages of ideas and context up to make sure it really, actually lands. And it whips.

And by this, I mean I finished reading Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand.

(also yeah my steam name is Master Chief Apologist, it has been the funniest thing I could think of for a while)

3 characters is a good number. there's 3 different ways they can gang up on each other.

have i mentioned lately that i just really really really love science fiction and every day is a wonderful and lucky day to read books

if you want to modernize carrie white then she is not a pretty, misunderstood quiet girl. what she is is a "lolcow", a girl who does not fit in and is seen as a bit grotesque and is systematically provoked until she breaks, with a goal of milking her for content.

a thing about carrie, the novel, is that carrie *is* weird and judgmental and unpleasant to deal with. characters have to suppress their irritation with her, and this is important because it's easy to reach out to someone who conforms to social norms. it's harder to do that to a girl who doesn't.

stars in my pocket like grains of sand is really cool, I've never read anything quite like this

Sometimes I really do just think about how people hold doors for strangers, even rush a bit and go out of their way to do it.

You can just read university textbooks if you want to know about things. And you can read them wrong, going to the sections that interest you and skimming the rest, or whatever you like. Nobody will stop you, and with no classes or grades, you can just relax and discover neat stuff.

Anybody got any good Tubi movie recommends? My recommend is The Name of the Rose. Sean Connery in a monastic noir, with Tom Waits as a hunchback and a young Christian Slater. Lighting, sets and atmosphere was incredible. A movie!

"The love was real and it mattered but also there are some fucking choices you cannot make and expect someone to still trust you" is an awesome category of story.

there is no power in the world like when 1 or 2 people read something cause i ran my mouth about it, i steeple my fingers like a supervillain and go heehee heehee heehee

you already know (after some delay) what's up (steam sale rec thread is what's up) as always, i focus primarily on older, obscure, or just plain weirder games, as big name titles don't tend to need the help. with that said, onwards!

Followed up on one of the recs I was writing down from Jo Walton's book. The Fortunate Fall by Cameron Reed is *crazy* good, this has knocked my head clean off and I'm not even through the big climactic reveal. The rollercoaster is clanking to the top of the last hill and I'm ready to yell!

Really creative, intuitive speculative fiction re: a society where everyone's got brain implants and society is networked together on a vast scale, and how news media might look. A little bit retro futuristic (it is from the 90s) but so well done.

Also the forbidden lesbian desire and struggle to negotiate boundaries when two people become too intimate too fast (due to a literal mind link) and it's distressing no matter how well-intentioned and kind it is. 👌👌👌

"How did you get into ttrpgs?" I was looking up character writing exercises on personal websites belonging to random people and getting bent out of shape about how many of them were specifically for D&D 3.5 characters. Then I found one specifically for Werewolf: the Apocalypse.

"How did you get into ttrpgs?" This isn't even a joke: professional starcraft

I'm fine I'm posting breakup song lyrics on tumblr and making it about Halo

A lot of my friends glance my way for a reaction check when anything happens to Halo. For those friends: If they fired Easterling, I am pretty sure they fired everyone who was in charge of the lore. It's about as bad as it could possibly be for someone that cares about Halo's story the way I do.

Wearily beginning to assemble the gear, armor, and expendables I'll need to write my own goddamn conclusion to Halo Infinite's story threads because there's no way they don't get abandoned now.
