D&D is such a good system, I especially love it when people hack it around to make it fit other settings like cyberpunk, urban horror or sci-fi because those settings are underserved with good systems!

It’s okay if you only ever play DnD, you don’t even need to read those books, just rely on your DM to tell you all the rules. Other/indie games are not worth the time/money investment.

Your own enjoyment is all that matters. If your broken, over optimized character takes all the fun out it for the other players, it’s their fault for not optimizing hard enough. (This is sarcasm in response to the above post)

D&D has always been a wargame - lines, cones, reach, movement, etc. 4E was just the first D&D where the tactics layer was 1: actually fun, and 2: not trivially circumvented with a single spell. 5E in a reactionary move tries to pretend it's not by forcing the DM to keep the battle map in their head.

Differential XP is good. You should be fighting other players for every point of experience and if someone gets more xp than you it means they’re just better at RPGs

The ongoing storyline of a game shouldn’t unfold as some sloppy aggregate side effect of player choices. It should be carefully crafted in advance by the GM, and revealed to the players in a way that enables them to observe the dramatic arc for maximum effect. [YUCK!]

Love heavy RP during thematic board games not designed for it, especially competitive ones where I think my moves out ahead, but in RPGs I usually want to roll dice and kill shit and make numbers go up. Lethality in OSR makes combat fun so I seek it out bc RP & social problem solving is lame
