I think the president’s reaction to the plane/helicopter crash is to set up his previously stated goal of getting rid of military leadership that won’t follow him. He wants generals “like generals Hitler had” and I think his DEI rhetoric is to get at military leadership.

Flying is an act of faith in the people, systems and technology of aviation. I’ve lost that faith and as a result cancelled my vacation flights and will not make others. It is a sacrifice, including my 50-yr high school reunion, but I cannot fly while this administration breaks our system.

To be more serious, as I understand it, the actions of Trump and Musk are essentially dismantling the operation of our whole flight safety apparatus through their personnel actions. It seems to me the wrong time to be reassuring people about that.
