It’s amazing to me that the continent that gave us two world wars can barely muster much to defend Ukraine against a third rate military. Much less a functional army

The EU actively involved in the Ukraine vs. Russia war? What if Russia & China, instead of just military aid, sent battle ships to the Strait of Hormuz? Wouldn't that get us closer to a world-wide catastrophe?

Are you for real bro? Yep, two world wars and the US was late to both. If it wasn't for European support, Ukraine would be struggling! The US is unreliable, untrustworthy and in many ways a pariah because incompetent fools are more worried about vanity and testosterone.

Hehe. It is not in your country's interest for Europe to develop the sort of armed sovereignty you imply. Thank you very much for this post though. I hope and believe we will now build it. Mostly thanks to Trumpism. People tasked to maintain your empire are cursing you.

Well you see we stopped starting wars every 5 years like you guys, so we kind of got out of the habbit, but we might be back now and I am not sure you are not going to like it any better then the last time

Which has forced Ukraine to send Russia's entire petroleum industry into the atmosphere all at once. I never want to hear the words "climate change" again...especially from Europeans.

Personally, I don't think that most of Europe believes it is in jeopardy. Or they are hoping that Putin will stop with Ukraine and not continue looking west. Even after Germany annexed Austria, rest of Europe didn't get involved.

Your country worked tirelessly to entrench european dependency on your military industrial complex for 70 years, and (some of) you got rich in the process. Now we will part ways. It will be hard, but in the long run, our social operating system will outperform yours. Solidarity and decency wins.

Yup! I feel the same way about my homeland (Canada). I think we ended up with a better democracy than the US today - and we did not even need a revolution! 🇨🇦🇪🇺

And btw, Europe is no longer sharing Intelligence with the US... due to it's Russian-supporting President. So we don't know wtf is going on behind the scenes.

A 3rd rate Mililary who commits War Crimes and runs its people into a human meat grinder with no compunction. It's not like fighting an equal, it's a rabid dog.

I wonder how much of that has to do with the fact that the bulk of their equipment is US made and the issues we currently have with supplying our own forces. Europe probably needs to cut back on buying our weapons for the foreseeable future.

This is absolutely correct. EU has been far too dependent upon purchasing USA munitions ie Patriot systems and its related missiles, to appease the USA government for being the dominant nato force. Similar shit as Canada’s dependence on USA as a partner and recipient of 70% of CDN exports. No more.

Never forget. WE - US wanted to neuter Germany after a 2nd WW. And we did. And 3 generations of Germans said OK, if U.S. will protect us, that’s fine. So we expect them to have a military like 1939? Nope.

‘It’s amazing to me that the continent that gave us two world wars …’ I’m sorry - what? Not to mention the rest of that sentence, which is a wild, and offensive, generalisation.

They'd've done 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 better and faster if America was behind them all the way from the start! America didn't even have to fight, just lend-lease enough weapons like it did during WW II.🤷 Canadians called Americans cowards as they fought and died. Ukrainians are calling Americans cowards and 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩!😒

My Dad (Canadian) always told me that the Americans entered WWII long after the Canadians (including my grandpa) had been fighting and dying over there in Europe. Not to mention the Brits! Jeez.

Very true and if the Pearl Harbor attack hadn't happened America may not've joined the European war at all. Here's a song I recorded performed by the Canadian Celtic Choir about Canada's Merchant Marines who put their lives on the line to supply Britain, often with lend/lease American made weapons.

It's amazing to me, that you've forgotten the US promise of security in exchange for giving up the Nukes, but you've a bawbag in charge who favours Russia for the win. Are you taking over from Lindsay as the warmonger in chief?

This European contrast reveals how easy it is for evil to flourish yet goodness involves significant effort to move away from the very comforts goodness needs to defend. 😠

On the other hand, we SHOULD be doing more. At least some European countries are seriously under-performing in this regard. And the US should be doing MUCH more (currently it's doing nothing at best... in fact, it is behaving more like a Russian ally).

Sorry but fuck off. That’s a disgusting thing to say. You know perfectly what the post WWII settlement was. The fact your prick of a president has just blown your entire arsenal against Iran AND LOST. I had respect for you. No longer. Once a GOP. Always.

This situation is the direct result of USA. Since WW2, USA wanted Europe this way. Until in 2025 you didn't. NATO was created to keep USA in Europe, USSR out, & Germany down. But sure, blame others for not reacting fast enough to USA fucking over the world & back-stabbing all her former allies.

I agree. However, we will likely reach a point where we decide on a common EU military force. At the very least, we have begun rearming. And we obviously prefer European or Canadian equipment.

It perhaps has something to do with the wars. And with being high on American security. Withdrawal syndrome is painful but we'll get through. I see a path for getting better for us. Not for the US though.

I think underestimating your enemy is exactly what putin wants you to do. They are a pretty powerful army, it is just the world underestimated Ukrainians even more prior to 2022. There is a reason Ukrainians and Russians together defeated Hitler. Unfortunately now Russia has a Hitler of its own.

Sorry Adam, this time you are really off course.Europe has totally replaced in value the aid that has disappeared from the US,while maintaining a high level of its own aid.You people are responsible for preventing Europe for DECADES from building its own military,so it didn't threaten your hegemony.

I know it’s not a unified army (yet), but EU (+UK) can field around 3.3 million trained soldiers. That should be enough for any threat. And it should be enough for a joint task force of at least 50,000.

may I remind you that it was an American philosopher who lectured the world saying "History was over and that liberal democracy would reign supreme over the world, Europe took that and at what was at the time a smart move and brought down our defence spending to lower levels.

And must I remind you that a lot of these European countries also sent men and women to fight alongside America in Iraq and Afghanistan. at great political cost to their leaders (Tony Blair in the UK for example)

Come on! You can do better than just casually trashing European allies for relying too much on NATO. It might have been a wrong decision in a hindsight, but did they really ever consider the epic betrayal by their key ally, US?

Do you think it might of helped if the US abided by its commitment to protect Ukraine after they surrendered all their nuclear arms after the 91 agreement. Sorry I forgot you can’t take the US’s words. With them it’s not worth the paper it’s written on.

It's amazing to me that the country that gave more instability to the world can barely help their allies against RUSSIA, your old time enemy which have nuclear weapons. Bye

why don't you call some of your USArmy buddies who've trained alongside British (or Swedish, or Finnish, etc.) troops, and see whether they think those are "functional armies". Meanwhile the US military wastes all its energies blowing up Iranian schools and Latino fishermen.

Adam, you can fuck all the way off with that nonsense. Other commenters have made the points I would here, so I won't repeat them, but when you sober up, I hope you will be apologizing for your misleading assertion of history and glossing over the US failure to meet its commitments and obligations.

🧵1/3 As much as I often like your comments, this one is WAY OFF! Europe has done way more than the US, including humanitarian aid (Google?) Your party's president has given Putin more or less card blanche when it comes to attacking Ukraine. His illegal war with Iran has helped bring about a

🧵2/3 closer axis support between RUS, CH, IR & NK which helps Russia agressively increase its actions in Ukraine. US is the only one with Patriot ammunition. Some of which was promised to Ukraine and then had to be redirected to Israel & other countries/US bases in the region. ON TOP: you were

🧵3/3 also in the military, remember how Europe/NATO was always told to buy US weapons for compatibility reasons. They did & got stuck with less productive military weapons productions. Now they get away from that mantra bc they know that we are no longer reliable Your post is another proof of it.

They're not fighting the USA, my guy. Oh, you mean Russia, my bad. That's a different third rate army. ...and seeing as the country you're so proud of supplied the Nazis during WWII, and joined both world wars last I'd maybe shut my lips and open a goddamned book.

Dude, they don't have massive economic input from exploited colonies anymore. 🤷 And they are worried about themselves. Poland and the Baltic nations are experiencing probing incursions.

#30million8/30 The GOP defines moral turpitude not moral fortitude. They have declined to a state of pure supremacy, denying pluralism and egalitarianism. They are attempting to install a hegemonistic nationalist state with authoritarian style governance. RISE UP! OVERTHROW! END FASCISM!

Wtaf? Are you whamming against Europe? Who has been doing more than USA, especially under Trump, but also while Biden etc was slowing delivery of weapons down?

Spoken like someone who’s never seen war on his land. They’ve done a hell of a lot more than we have, while simultaneously trying to arm themselves for what’s coming. 🤦🏻‍♀️

This happens when you trust an ally with no morals and from whom you've thought you could buy (and pay for) weapons to harmonize defense systems. It's a big mistake to trust the US, but Europe still supports Ukraine while the US supports Putin.

Maybe if Trump didn’t put that ridiculous 5% demand we might be able to do more above the billions Germany has given in money and equipment. We still have trains running through Germany loaded with military equipment from France and Germany. Germany supports over 1 million Ukrainian citizens.

Exactly. Germany is keeping pretty quiet about their support for Ukraine. As they should. They are doing a hell of a lot more than we know about. 🇩🇪🇪🇺👊

Suffering people, such as those lacking access to healthcare and a good education, are easier to coerce into accepting wars of aggression. Another thing that would help maintain peace is having wealthy citizens pay more taxes when their country goes to war. My bet: We'd have a lot fewer wars.

Must be nice to sit back and brag about spending all that money on social issues and complaining about the US having provided security coverage for a generation at the expense of domestic spending. methinks we'll be getting to spend on domestic issues soon and you'll get to foot the security bill.

It's amazing to me you blame Europe when you damn well know America promised Ukraine military support against Russian aggression as a swap for Ukraine decommission all it's nukes. Ukraine had a SHIT ton of nukes. Sorry Adam, you are wrong on this issue, pal.

Europeans clutching their pearls while knowing damn well that the United States bailed them out of both World Wars. Europe needs to be able to stand on it's own in the face of aggression be it Russian, Chinese, or even American.

If y'all didn't know, in the past 40 years the American government has spent more than $22 trillion on wars(Useless wars). Just imagine that $22 trillion was spent on American citizens: infrastructure, education, housing, and healthcare. The worst part is that we have killed millions of people.
