Imagine feeling like your country's newsmedia could at any time turn its back and begin this level of hate campaign against you, to the point that they harass you and everyone you love to the literal ends of the earth, mining you for content until your death and even after. How would you live life?

Another one here where the British press just smashed fuck out of a member of the public’s life for no good reason, just because they wanted to and nobody will stop them doing at. And they’re still going, even now.

I present this exercise for the cis people who've recently told me they're surprised by how bad things are. This is the torture we all live under, a torture we risk simply by using the bathrooms we feel most safe in, and doing the jobs we've always done. Many of us are planning to leave the country.

Please, I beg of you. Understand this environment trans people are living in when you interact with us online. You need to have way more than just basic empathy right now.

Oh, and by the way, given I know a lot of my followers haven't been watching this story? That trans doctor the Daily Mail article is fixated on? Did absolutely nothing wrong. Cleared of every charge. Was just living her life, forced to flee the country by NHS bigots and the British media. Yeah.

I said in this interview that life as a trans person in 2026 Britain is "terrifying", but I honestly don't really feel "terrified" so much as I feel "terrorised". And the industry I work in carries much of the blame.

there's been a worldwide campaign against trans people—nowhere has it been stronger (& less opposed) than the uk latest podcast with @aendra.com www.politicalphilosophypodcast.com/uk-media-trans

Probably going to mute this thread soon; obligatory "I don't have a Soundcloud", but if you're looking for somewhere to send support, please consider donating to @goodlawproject.org

🏳️‍⚧️ UPDATE 🏳️‍⚧️ Our challenge to the EHRC’s transphobic interim guidance moves forward. We will have a hearing at the Court of Appeal by the end of this year “if at all practicable” 👇 https://goodlaw.social/fwdt

I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I can't believe some of the things I see printed in UK papers. It will take the most sensationalist, unproven thing said by someone, put that as the title (as if it is proven and fact) then in the article be like "according to..."

if they get called out, they're like "we never actually said it, we were just quoting." 1. Why are they headlining news articles with quotes like that? 2. why aren't they making clear it's a quote? People will read the title and repeat it as fact, and they know it. They're just hateful and slimy

And why don’t we have a press regulator with the power to fine them their annual profits and make them print “we lied to you again” as their full front page every time they do it?

Do you think there's any truth to The Guilty Feminist's suggestion (in the book Six Conversations) that a foundation circa 2014 decided that fighting gay rights in the UK was a lost cause so the way to divide the left, and feminists more broadly, was to start a campaign against the trans community?

Honestly couldn't say; on one hand American evangelical dark money is literally everywhere always but otoh what I've observed over the years is much closer to elite capture via Twitter-borne brainworms. Perhaps it's ultimately a bit of column A, a bit of column B.

Based on someone else's suggestion, TGF had a few episodes called TheRoadToGilead that goes into it but it seems to be a plan across Evangelical orgs a little bit akin to the war on Liberation Theology; broad strokes but literally a targeted, co-ordinated strategy. Never saw myself as a ConTheorist!

Everyone I know wouldn’t care less if the doctor was trans, black brown or bright yellow. They want to see a doctor. A professional. The Daily Fail is an abomination. Leave the trans people alone. They have had maybe are having enough to deal with. In Belfast slang “fuck away with your shite”
