Yeah I have complex feelings on this. I think there’s a principled conversation about what layers of the stack should have which forms of accountability. (And this comes up in my day job too.) What I’ve seen inside is thoughtful principle, especially around skepticism of governments right now.

Okay... the first thing I recommend is to update or replace your edge router (modem), especially if it was provided to you by your Internet provider. It is definitely not unknown that such providers _may_ have adjusted the firmware on said router to provide themselves access to your home Internet.
