I worked on a few fairly prominent efforts in open source (Istio, OpenAPI), but I think of all of them, it’s gRPC that I think has the coolest story. Pull up a chair and set for a spell (any inaccuracies in what follows are 100% my fault for having a bad memory!).

My buddy Dean from Chevelle threw out the first pitch at a Cubs game.

do u know any body who has thrown out a first pitch at a major league game i know @louisgray.com did at an A's game!

"That one missing sock in the laundry" is probably the lowest form of trope in comedy: so cliche as to be unusable. But I just did three loads of laundry and have FIFTEEN unmatched socks! This is a tragedy worthy of comedy. Every parent understands.

Hi protocol friends! I've been cooking up a Very Large PDS (vlpds) implementation capable of scaling up to billions of accounts and down to just one. It uses Object Storage as its only state, supports HA operation, live scaling up and down, is feature-complete with the reference PDS, and is FOSS.

vlpds.jazco.devOverview · vlpds docsAn atproto PDS whose only durable storage is an object store. Any node serves any request, one node can run a personal server for free, and a few nodes can carry all of Bluesky's write load.

Last weekend we saw local legend, (friend and neighbor) three time Grammy winner Fantastic Negrito at Davies Symphony Hall, performing with the Sam Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Ran into the legendary Boots Riley (rapper turned prolific director) in the lobby afterward. I love Oakland!

Another great aspect!

I couldn't find my UK power adapter before leaving yesterday, so I bought one in the airport. My hotel in London is modern and there are USB and USB-C plugs all over the room. I don't need my adapter. #Standardization #APIs

It was fun because two years ago, I was sitting with Leslie Lee and her colleagues at Squid AI and I remember it was the FIRST time I heard anyone use "agent" and "agentic." Of course, in the last six months... It's practically all we hear about. Leslie crystallizes it beautifully.

USB-C is the best technology in so long. I bring ONE type of adaptor on business trips now (to charge my computer, my phone, my tablet, my earbuds, my watch, my headphones). I'm sitting in a meeting right now using my Mac and am borrowing the cord from a ThinkPad user. Standards win.

Incomprehensible in this day and age to get an error message like this when trying to open a PowerPoint deck in SharePoint.

Personally, I think that Roger Waters knew that "we don't need no education" is a double negative and, in fact, the song was actually telling everyone to stay in school.

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

It was a long talk with @kelseyhightower.com that got me to move from Mastodon and to delete my (then dormant) X account. He convinced me that AT and Bluesky were the right combination of technology and stewardship. My opinion: ANYONE posting on X is supporting Musk (by donating content).

Twitter died a long time ago and X isn't worth it. Before I made the jump, my ego was holding me back. I was too concerned with vanity metrics. I finally realized if you're posting stuff people want to follow, then they'll follow you, even when you leave. www.siliconrepublic.com/enterprise/k...

TIL how my 83 year old mother-in-law shares playlists with relatives (or rather, how they give them to her). Screenshots of Spotify 😂

Is there any way that other NYC orgs can put some of the unlucky 2965 techies to work? Asking for a friend* *me i'm asking for me. and also some other friends.

3,000 techies applied for 35 jobs with NYC's PIT Crews, and, as Levy writes, many of them are high-flying senior coders who are willing to take a massive pay-cut and forfeit their stock options to do something that's both technically excellent and meaningful to their users' lives. 53/

I was 14 and had been hit by a car. I had a bad, compound fracture of the tibia but sat in the emergency room for hours while they located my parents. When they finally did (and they signed off on surgery), a doctor said "We need to hurry because if the bone is infected we'll have to amputate."

A question from Reddit that I'll answer here: "What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"

Working with Sanjay on one of my first projects at Google will remain one of the highlights of my career. I wish him the best of luck.

Watching Terminator 2 with my 14-year-old son in the age of AI is really putting it in perspective. What's striking (and seems so unrealistic at this moment) is how willing Miles Dyson was to come around to the danger of the tools he was creating.

Wow. MCPs being stateless really does reinforce the parallels with web APIs. This feels just like 2013! The innovation (and the capabilities and business it opens up) is so exciting.

Netlify@netlify.com

The interesting part of MCP 2026-07-28 is a removal. No handshake, no session ID header, no sticky routing. Servers scale horizontally the way HTTP has always scaled. We shipped support for it on day one. claude.com/blog/bringin...
