I just think it's dishonest to say that the politics are unavoidable on other platforms, but they are on X. Its *point* is its politics; you're just saying they exist at a level you find palatable. The guys who doxed my family aren't on the other platforms; they're followed by staff members on X.

More to the point — people who stayed on the platform don't realize how inured to extremism they've become. They regularly get exposed to trending topics, and amplified content from verified accounts, that they would have recoiled from just a few years ago. I don't miss anything *not* being there.

Then, of course, the most salient point: They pay a man who sold content of a 2-year-old being sexually abused, whose account Musk personally restored after the account was suspended. Millions of users saw the content, and thoey are still on the service, too. It's a paid CSAM distribution site.

I think a key thing illustrated by the linked post is a misapprehension that *volume and breadth* is the point of a social network. Why does anyone need to see John Ternus's PR posts? Or any given person? If you can find 1,000 cool people to follow on a given platform, you're good to go!

We've known each other a long time, he knows how I feel. I think the challenge ultimately is that there's a cohort that just doesn't believe that the nazis and fascists on the site determine who gets to thrive there. (Or, they do believe it and don't care.) I do not persuade anyone; not my ministry.

Why I deleted after September 2023 - I came across someone I didn't know talking about being abused, and bullies replied with CSAM to be arses. I reported it. And had a response back that it the reported pics didn't go against community standards. do not want to be part of that 'community'

Unfortunately, because I don’t think this is the way that politics should work, but in light of the world we live in right now, the Democrats are really gonna have to learn how to ride herd on these people when they get power in a similar way to Republicans. That’s the only way to change behavior.

Before I left, I never saw any of that stuff because I saw posts only from accounts I followed. No algorithm. So people on birdchan are still supporting a traitor, but they may not be getting shit flung at them by the locals. I miss the way it was but not what's there now.

"I judiciously curate my personal feed of 1,600 accounts with mutes and blocks to be pleasant" sits uneasily alongside "the vast majority of my 300,000 followers get Xkun."

I created a burner account recently to see something that I couldn’t access otherwise. The new-user experience is just a firehose of shit. Maybe John has curated his experience to such a degree that he’s insulated from this, but having left when Musk took over, I was shocked how bad it had gotten.
