Thought experiment: it's 2028. Anthropic has crashed. Claude is no longer available. Can you or those on your team maintain the code it wrote? Or will you simply look for a replacement which, of course, will be able to maintain that code?

Replacement models already exist and are open weights so won’t go away. And like the dark fiber left everywhere after the dotcom crash, datacenters full of GPUs will be available at reasonable prices with all sunk costs cleared by bankruptcy

I’m optimistic that we’d see development of new languages / frameworks that are designed for human readability first, so that humans can more easily audit AI generated code. I know Go for example gave higher preference to readability in its design.

You asked two questions, can humans maintain vibe coded apps, and can we find alternative AIs to maintain them if the big AI companies die off. I answered the second question which makes the first one moot.

Bankruptcy doesn't mean it's free, it means the people who provided the money are out more than a trillion dollars, and thanks to the Private Credit craze, that's not just degenerate gambler VCs, it's pensions and insurance.
