this is a QUARTER CENTURY old now youtu.be/GAv1EwoRnec Back to 2001 on LGR today for a retrospective on Windows XP! Reminiscing on its release, unboxing and setting it up, new features, games, screensavers, and a bunch of nifty early 2000s things. Still a truly enjoyable eXPerience decades later!

They trained their probes on Claude's internal activations, to detect the "this seems harmful" signal associated with dubious outputs. They asserted a high degree of confidence that these internal activations - Claude's gut intuitions - could not be easily modified. This assertion was incorrect.

like, I think the criticism of Uber in particular is very trenchant and on-point, it's part of why I've been frustrated that 'enshittification' now just means 'i think things are worse because I have back pain and I've lost my sense of wonder' instead of the actual useful descriptor it once was

+ + BREAKING ++ Switzerland votes in one year. Latest polls suggest the radical right SVP could surpass its 2015 record, approaching 30%. But rather than framing this as a surge, the story of the SVP: a relatively stable electoral base, alongside an increasing number of defeats at the ballot box

Hey everyone, gather around! Elon Musk, the trillionaire defense contractor currently spending >$400m on political campaigns to prop up the party of a deeply unpopular president who launched the Iran War has some thoughts about Ukraine, elites, and money in politics.

❌ NO: This is not a legit video of the #Eiffel Tower collapsing in flames. It's AI-generated. 🤔 Pausing for a few seconds to ask "Really??" is a good first step to fact-check a viral claim. 🔎 Then examine the source - is it reputable? And seek out supporting evidence. 🔗 go.newslit.org/EiffelAI

Let's just clear something up: if you believe support for Ukraine is wrong in any way, you are a bad person with bad beliefs and you need to change, immediately. There's no pulling punches here. The Ukraine test is absolute, ironclad, and infallible.

Western companies definitely didn't sprint to sell out protestors to their second largest market! Countries loved having to choose between their moral backing for democracy and their diplomatic relations with a great power!

To me it's like those late 19th century people who would go to a cinema and just watch video of trains going by and be astonished. I'm them now. I'm watching a machine do stuff with my cursor because I instructed it to with a phone. I walk in the woods and it updates me. Astonishing.

I don't think the US is relaxing sanctions on Russia. Here is why: 1.) The timing of the Graham Act waiver is mostly a coincidence. Trump would have had to impose new sanctions and tariffs latest on 18 October. He had to use the waiver now - and it was clear that he would use it.

ultimately the bigotry is the point so true compromise and coalition building maybe wasn't ever in the cards but you also don't have to record podcasts on "The Indian Question" and a group of people that clearly has no aversion to constant outright lying chose odd ground for honesty imo
