HUNT: The president is talking about a third term. How seriously do you take that? GALLEGO: I don't take it seriously because he will be in violation of the Constitution and he should be arrested if he attempts to do that

That is such a stupid response! This is so crazy! WTF does the Constitution have to do with anything? Where are we? Does Gallego not see what is literally happening everyday? The government is killing, crippling, impoverishing people and punishing dissent!! It's like bringing a pen to a gunfight

I don’t want to hear from any democrat who isn’t busy spending at least a portion of their day drawing up exhaustive articles of impeachment. FUCKING ON THE DAILY.

They're beyond that now. IMO they're getting ppl ready for (net a 3rd term) an EXTENSION of his current term. The supporters are in denial bcuz they believe it will be authoritarian & that will be part of that power. They won't. They're setting up for totalitarian rule by him.

Right but unlike the Colorado disqualification case where SCOTUS said congressional legislation was required because of a clause in the 14th Amendment that said Congress could enact statutes to enforce. The 22nd Amendment is crystal clear and doesn't include such provision.

Hell at this point I think Clinton, Bush, and Obama should all publicly announce they are running in 2028 today just to watch all the right wing MAGA groups file lawsuits to try to prevent them from doing so. Lets play the game of Fuck Around and Find Out!

The 14th Amendment is crystal clear. He is an adjudicated insurrectionist. There was never any question about that. The corrupt SCROTUS manufactured the Congressional requirement out of whole cloth. This from multiple constitutional Scholars. How would this be any different?

The same MAGA idiots who will still be alive at that time, will still vote for him too. His cult is no joke. They are dug in, and they aren't going anywhere. They have the monopoly on violence and have the SCOTUS and DOJ.

I am not certain Gallego is playing with a full deck. We are here in 2025 because some people did not take trump seriously. He has violated the constitution on a daily basis. We also have a congress SCOTUS enabling him in breaking the law, simply becasue we are not taking him seriously.

We need to take it very seriously -should have taken his stated purpose of building a ballroom more seriously. -should have taken his statement that he wasn't sure if he would accept the results of the 2020 election more seriously despite his lies there are times we need to make plans to prevent.

Don’t you get it? The entire gop does not care about the constitution and neither does the Supreme Court, it will take a coup d'état to stop him.

He will be nearly 83 & that is too old. Even if he were not cognitively impaired, he would not have the mental or physical stamina to carry out his duties. As it is, he is already as batty as a bear on neurotoxins, so I think the men in white coats should gently move him away -ASAP.

Oh, for God’s sake! He’s been openly flouting the law and wiping his ass with the Constitution since before he was first installed in the White House. How stupid must you be to airily say “he’ll be arrested” like that? Take it fucking seriously! This is what he always does - “jokes” about it first!

Really? You think he’ll be arrested? That’s funny! He should be in jail now! Time to seriously update some laws he can’t get away from! He’ll also be in his 80’s! I’m hoping he ends up in the fetal position very soon!

There is no Congress now already. Even the old DOJ had the stupid rule that you can't prosecute a sitting president. He'd be a sitting president as he ran for a 3rd term. Only one legal solution exists, impeachment.

How many times has he violated the Constitution in the last 10 months? He disregards it with impunity along with judges, congress and, the law. We can't count on any of those traditional curbs!

In normal times, perhaps, but you don't have that anymore. In normal times it wouldn't even be a topic for talk. Opponents need to stop thinking in terms of the constitution. I thought the constitution says that an insurectionist can't run for office. Didn't stop Americans for voting for one.

It’s against the constitution, Trump doesn’t care about the constitution and has broken the law repeatedly as president but nothing happens to him. He has already set the groundwork not to leave office.

1- Everyone assumes he'll still be alive (given his health issues.) 2- When will politicians start to take everything he says seriously? He may not succeed, but you can bet that he'll do his level best to try. Notice how his 'good boy' Eric is playing major role these days? Something to think about.

The only problem is - like almost all judicial rulings and the rest of the Constitution - there's NO ACTUAL PENALTY for trying run for a 3rd term. You don't get 10 years and/or a fine. The Constitution and Judicial branch are utterly toothless - seriously!

Is he the President when his term expires? No. If he tries to retain the Presidency beyond his term, he is a citizen who is breaking current Constitutional law. Arrest him.

Sadly the largely conservative SCOTUS gave him immunity for breaking the law. So they have given him the green light to continue breaking the law with impunity. This country is so messed up these lawless fascist Republicans.

I can guarantee that Trump is looking for any possible loophole. For example, the Constitution bans one from being ELECTED to the presidency more than twice. But Trump could theoretically run for VP under Vance (or anyone else with a pulse), and then have the President resign post-inauguration. …

If Trump went this path, I’d fully expect him and his running mate to be up front about the plan. They’d want voters to know who they’re really voting for. …

It would, of course, be up to SCOTUS to decide whether that violated the intent of the Constitution, but with this court, I wouldn’t bet against Trump.

Jonathan Karl on the View contends he is doing this so as not to be seen as a lame duck & having vance & rubio preparing campaigns, that the focus must be 100% on him and him alone

You know, plenty of respected legal experts -- like Judge Luttig -- said that Trump couldn't run because of the insurrection clause in the 14th amendment. And yet...here he is. How seriously should we take that?

The way he's declining, I personally think if he lives to the end of this term, he's likely to be a pile of orange goo by then. That said, we should take it seriously, because if the law mattered, he would be in prison or at least house arrest from his 1st term actions.

They’ll probably do something fringe to give them glaze of lawfulness of course. Like I could see him try running for vice president then becoming president when the president leaves office.

Not legal, again. It’s already law that you can’t be VP if you can’t be president again. Yes, we know they don’t care about law, but that’s extra steps they won’t bother with.

Will there be a group of senators and congresspeople who have the guts to stop this? I don’t know how these people justify their salaries, paid medical care and millions in perks when they sit on their asses and allow an insane demented monster and his nazi puppets do whatever they want.

In just a little over three years I seriously doubt that besides the oligarchs and wealthy whobare profiting from his destruction of the country will be the only ones supporting Trump.

Because that attitude has worked so well thus far. The orange man baby has been stopped from doing anything illegal by the constitutional guard rails working exactly as planned. I see no problem blandly saying 'BUT THAT'S ILLEGAL' as a solution.

We need to take him seriously, because he's not planning to leave the presidency while he's still alive. You don't build a $300million ballroom onto a house you're planning to leave in the future.

You want to get people to vote in ALL elections? Tell them what it takes to change the Constitution, then tell them how many state legislatures are controlled/partially controlled by Republicans. That will scare the crap out of a lot of people.

Don't forget that the 18th Amendment made alcohol illegal in all 50 states, and state and local governments couldn't override that. That's where the 21st Amendment came to the rescue. They just need another Amendment to override the 22nd. Then we run Obama again.

The rules became irrelevant on January 20 of this year. He doesn't have to run. He just doesn't have to accept the results of a presidential election due to "irregularities and fraud" that "we're looking into." He'll simply refuse to leave. He's about to starve Americans. Elections are next.

SCOTUS has established that he can do whatever he wants whilst in office. Clearly he doesn’t care about the constitution, the law, or the courts unless it is in his favor. If him doing illegal things was enough to stop him, we wouldn’t be in the nightmare.

Democrats appear so delusional. The maga christian gold-plated godking is a felon rapist pedophile insurrectionist traitor and still walks free and was elected as a felon. Felons can't run for president but did and won. The constitution means nothing to christians. Christians want a new nation.

A weak response, one fears. Putin once evaded term limits by becoming prime minister, showing how easily power can outwit paper laws. Without firm resolve to defend the Constitution, such words risk sounding hollow.
