Sen. Pete Ricketts on why the Trump administration isn't included in his stock trading ban bill: "What we want to do is make sure we're not locking out people who come from a successful business. We don't want to keep a successful business person from coming to Congress."

That's funny because government has been shown to be the last place "successful business people" should be. Profit is not and never should be the government's primary goal. Apparently around children is the second to last place... 🤦🏻‍♂️

Note the underlying definition of “successful business man”: one whose business is mainly finance/trading (and/or inherited). Not one who built a successful manufacturing company, not a successful contractor, and god forbid a successful scientist or [ugh] plumber…

Senator Ricketts, success is not by any means a measure of intelligence. We are seeing that now in real time with the republican reign of terror. We want intelligent, educated people in office. Not people who failed up through school and life.

Other than altruism (a very, very good motivation), a successful business person (will leadership punish Ricketts for using gender neutral language?) has no reason to run for office. Also, holding Trump to a *lower* standard than we do members of Congress is preposterous.

I’m thinking that “successful business person” is code for corrupt business people. As IMO the more successful businesses become the more corrupt they are and the more they exploit & oppress their employees. Just saying.

And we define “successful” as bankrupting six casinos, after wasting the money his Daddy gave him. Then rescued him again … Sen Ricketts wants to destroy our economy as much as his boss does…

Do they realise how shitty this looks. Keeping Orange Shitler happy to the detriment of the electorate. Good luck with that guys, because you are going to get screwed so bad it will have its own PornHub category.

you aren't preventing successful business people from going to congress. You're preventing them from using congress for profit.

Trading stocks isn’t a business. It doesn’t produce anything and doesn’t employ anyone. I support disincentivizing candidates who would put their business interests on par or ahead of the public interest. Be a successful little business owner or stock trader if you want. Stay out of government.

No, that's exactly what I want. No reason for you to be in government if you're a successful business person ,billionaire or trillionaire, run your business, congress isn't supposed to be a lifetime position and is supposed to represent the majority of voters not the 1 percent.

"We don't want to keep a successful business person from coming to Congress." Who is 'We'? I absolutely want to do that, having a stock trader in Congress is a conflict of interest.

Yes we do. We have too many billionaires who some care more about keeping their wealth and less about making the country better for everyone. They’ll never change the tax codes to insure the rich pay their fair share either.

“Are you a successful businessperson but you don’t like following all these pesky rules and regulations? Then join Congress so you can get rid of them!” We used to have a government. Now it’s just organized crime.

Ok, BS, but how does that apply to Trump? Of all the things he wasnt, “successful businessman” was the thing he most WASN’T. Presidency is his most successful business

Yet another MF that belongs on jail for a very long time. The cleanup list for the next administration is historic. Deeper down it's the cleanup that Abraham Lincoln didn't get to do. Perhaps then the US can again move towards becoming the nation it has always tried to be.

Ricketts is running cringey anti-trans ads on TV and is in a fight against Independent Dan Osborn. Similar ads backfired on Omaha’s former Republican mayor, who lost to a Democrat, Omaha’s first black mayor John Ewing Jr. Ricketts’ support of Trump isn’t close to the flex it once was in Nebraska.

So GOP members of Congress consider themselves part of the Executive Branch administration? I mean, yeah… I just thought they were still pretending to be a separate branch.

Again, another one not listening to answer the question he’s listening to remain in proximity of a pardon. The question was clearly not about Congress it was about the administration.

Lock the fuckers out We need intelligent & compassionate people in government who want to help solve our nation’s problems, not working towards dynamic pricing healthcare, grocery and fuel costs their voters into poverty while they stock trade themselves into multi millionairedom

Why bother passing Rickett's half- assed stock trading ban if it doesn't apply to the worst chief of lies offender and his unscrupulous gang of corrup carnival freak culprits otherwise known as the closetocracy. Too many secrets, not enough closets to hide them.

God I hope Nebraskans vote with their common sense this time and get this MF out! I’ve never voted for him and will dance when he’s gone. He can take his buddy Pillen with him.

Q so it’s a bribe? A no, it’s an allowance. Q created to benefit a specific person family at this time? A well, he was such a great businessman. Q and you were told he wouldn’t sign it if he was included? A well, he wrote the Art of the Deal Q so it’s a bribe?

Sen. Pete Rickets is a quintessential “IDIOT ELECTED BY IDIOTS.” Please, please, please can somebody stop this lying monumental idiot from talking such total rubbish? He is out of his bloody mind, doesn’t know what he is talking about, and hurts our ears and brains.

I’d be willing to bet that eliminating successful business people, who can’t see the benefit of divestment in exchange for the privilege of representation, from being in Congress would only result in better outcomes for constituents.

So 'Stop Trading' does not really mean STOP! There are exemptions, WHY and what are they? Come on, don't assume that all voters can't read or understand that you are writing a law to protect your own tailfeathers. Let the voters write the laws that apply to you!

I don't think the "Senator" understands the definition of "successful". If it means subjugating another person or denying someone's inherent human rights, in any way and to any degree, then they're not successful at business, government, or really anything. Piss off, Petey.

Beyond parody. He’s fine with successful businessmen using their clout in politics to sponge off the American taxpayer. Republicans don’t see a problem with it, as long as it’s only republicans doing it

The Republican party is a crime syndicate they protect pedophiles and sex trafficking and probably participate in some of that it's still going on they're making money off their billionaire owners they participate in it by closing their eyes to it
