watching cis people repeatedly fail to find a way to counter the conservatives' emphasis on sex and thus watch them hopelessly struggle as conservatives bring back extremely invasive "sex testing" and defund or destroy women's organizations and social spaces is so. wow lol

Screaming this. Yelling this from whatever rafter I could climb up. Being told repeatedly by guys with "policy expert", "comms expert", "legal expert" in their bios that it's bad or impossible or wrong or wrongheaded.

Real "Oh, you want to argue correctly and factually and forcefully, that pales in comparison to my strategy: arguing effectively" and then losing embarrassingly, repeatedly and looking like fools while doing it, hours.

It is infuriating how many times I ask liberals simple shit like "what is a woman/female", "why is it a distraction", "can you respond to Thomas' dissent in WV v BPJ; and they just... Don't... They just ignore it, or end the conversation. They deny they could possibly be challenged on comms.

what can i really expect when trans voices are silenced in the media and only centrist or transphobic opinions are allowed to be publicized

in the middle of Trump 1 when the transphobia machine was just getting started I remember that a chat got leaked of liberal opinion staff at a newspaper openly expressing their contempt of trans people

Yeah, and it landed with a thud. No one who wasn't trans cared about this pretty flagrant breach of basic ethics. The reporters known to be in transphobic chats making transphobic jokes still got to write trans stories, while trans people were, of course, "too biased" to be trusted.

Do not trust cis “allies” who claim to support trans people but then say shit like that tbh(like “biological” sex doesn’t make sense as a concept because sex is inherently fluid and can be changed)

I hate how ingrained this has become. Like, folks, the transphobes use "biological male" as a *slur*. And no trans woman is trying to reclaim it because a) ew and b) it's factually inaccurate.

I don't know *where* the idea that trans people don't change our biology came from, but it's on-its-face ridiculous if you think about it, which is extra frustrating. All my sex characteristics have changed, many of them pretty dramatically!

Can I ask a stupid question? I promise I’m not trying to be a dick, I think I’m just naive. But isn’t there a real difference between biological sex and ascribed gender? Like, a trans woman would still need prostate screenings? Again I SWEAR I’m not trying to be an asshole. I’m just dumb.

I want you to think of the average guy (you are probably incorrect, but we'll go with it). Now think of the ideal of masculinity. Now think of the most feminine guy you can imagine. Are any of these guys the same guy? Now do the same for women. Physically, there's a spectrum, yeah?

Now then, think of a trans woman. Be less transmisogynistic than I cynically expect you to be while doing that, and then do it again. That trans women is more feminine than both the most masculine woman you can think of and the most feminine man you can think of.

“You are probably incorrect” - I promise you I’m wrong far more often than not, but I’m self aware enough to KNOW I’m wrong but I’m still trying, like a sad little Thomas the Tank Engine. My understanding was more that a lot of the internals don’t change, and that’s OK! But I’ve learned otherwise

there's more similarities than differences between cis/trans women, biologically, after yrs of transition, that's the whole point of HRT fixating on any one difference to lump trans women as biologically male is a way for the right and other haters to detransition trans people in documentation

being on HRT pretty much changes your biological sex in most ways. I'm a trans guy, and bc I inject T, I now have a health profile and risk factors similar to a cis man. I no longer have a period, I grew a micropenis, and there's prostate tissue in my vagina. and also it gave me hypertension lmao.

however, since i already grew breasts, I'm still at higher risk of breast cancer because that risk is correlated to the amount of tissue you have and not hormones. and hey, I learned all this stuff after transitioning. even a lot of trans ppl don't know the extent of HRT's effects.

trans women that have cis fem testosterone levels don't generally need prostate cancer screenings (it gets a lot smaller and the risk factor goes way down) but do have normal cis fem breast cancer risk. so the answer is "kind of but not really"

it's seriously difficult for me to think that the "liberal opposition" doesn't secretly desire this too considering you can make a robust case with science and social theory on your side attacking the conservative view of "the immutability and eternity of sex" but this is just. not done.

The problem is that we *do* make the case with science and social theory, but the conservative counter is "But boys are boys and girls are girls, checkmate." That's the problem with a complicated truth, it's hard to compete with a simple lie.

Who is "we"? I don't know any libs in positions of power doing even that, it's just online personalities. That said I agree that's a bad approach. Never argue on their terms, instead state your support and move on to real shit. They cannot afford to talk policy, that's why they target trans people.

even in electoral races when trans stuff comes into play the republicans and conservatives still lose. like the transphobia isn't even a particularly super effective strategy just by itself. it's just a total lack of effort to counter it in part because liberal darlings like

yeah but have you considered that rich transphobes just have a LOT of money 🥺🥺🥺 You can't expect Liberals to reject ALL of that money...

What do you mean secretly? They pretty openly desire it at this point. That's why they keep talking about capitulating on trans issues to win over swing voters, despite the mountain of evidence that doesn't work. They'll never forgive us for getting people to expect them to have principles.
