one thing I feel Bluesky hasn’t taken advantage of is being able to build new forms of interaction it’s twitter. It is. There’s nothing that would make me want to use it over twitter if I’d not already made that choice. No different ways to engage, nothing unique.

that's honestly my biggest beef with bluesky as a website. the protocol (even tho im not a fan) allows for so much more beyond "Twitter 2" and yet the website is hellbent on being Twitter 2, it's frustrating lol

I think having a ton of different ways to post on this platform *could* be great both for users and for marketing. Mix in features Twitter nuked, conceptualize new ones, yoink and twist from non-microblogging platforms.

communities are coming to Bluesky this year. today, Bluesky is one big space. communities will be smaller spaces inside that where you can go deeper and hang out with people who care about the same stuff.

I’m definitely aware of this and think it’s a great step! Communities are great and I’m sure there’s a lot more that can come from them.

I thought alternatives to bluesky would be more bold but they also are just clones. Even if bluesky can't experiment quick enough, surely alternative clients could. That's the point of atproto but I don't see it either

Ho thanks, I will have a look. I knew mu but it's still very much like Twitter. I didn't know the other 2 and indeed anisota is interesting!

They all use the same underlying Lexicon so there's a natural limit to their diversity although an soda does a great job of showing how much diversity is actually possible. Integration with other lexicons is probably where these apps will truly set themselves apart. For example,

Starter packs are a difference that actually got my attention and helped me eventually join this space. Ability to persist feed selection is the thing that made me stay. There is obviously portability itself, which is critical, but not exercised frequently.

It would be nice if we could "hook" many of the other @atproto.com projects into it somehow. Setting up a candidate program, where these could join as integration apps.

It’s tough when you’re trying to scale. You have to run as fast as you can just to keep the status quo, so outwardly it feels like nothing is happening. They’d best be served by figuring out a revenue model that encourages others to build the cool shit on top of the protocol.

yeah completely. One potential path they have is exposing capabilities in the app for data from other lexicons to be displayed.

Implementing it becomes pretty sprawling up front (permissioned data, communities, moderation) but I think long term it’s probably the best path to implementation and the best way to offload “interesting” expansion to the ecosystem.

Sure, if you mean likes and reposts. I’m more poking at user facing features like fleets, audio posts, polls, co-posts, and other lexicon posts like check-ins or music

ahhhh yeah completely agree, I’d love to seen them make Bluesky a microblogging platform where the ecosystem can build the integrations themselves kinda similar to how Slack does it?
