I'm a hypocrite. Personally, I detest (gen) AI. I despise big tech for monetizing human creativity, contributions, connections and communities, then renting it back to us. At work, though? I have three licenses and use them every day to be able to keep up with tasks. I hate it.

If they are allowed to steal art, they should also be required to fund it - because when I sign off for the day, there's no f*cking way am I going to go watch AI avatars play rock music in a dive bar. But they can certainly take all my internal PowerPoint deck builds.

I also hate myself that I use it for certain things outside of work, but the ability to do small POC projects that would previously have just rotted in my brain is enticing, especially with the time restrictions imposed by wanting to spend as much time as possible with my little one! 🫣

I wrestled with all of this ages ago and decided that it would be better net good for me to be in a position to advise people on the capabilities, risks, and limitations of these tools. As much as walking into the woods and become a woodcarver is some days.

I avoid it quite well out of hours, but I would drown very quickly at work if I didn't use it for the dumb automated things. I assign it little value, unless your task is to generate word things quickly, and burn people out at a similar speed.

I still don't have licenses and because everyone else uses it, I'm starting to feel like it holds me back. Only in the way of collaboration. Just like when you can't open a Project or Visio file unlicensed...
