“Anyone with nigh-apex machine intelligence on demand could have made this in a day” yeah but that’s really fucking cool! like do yo hear yourself?! (Not you, Cee, but our shared imaginary interlocutor) (This is we even grant the “anyone” part)

I remain convinced that fewer than 1% of AI detractors are genuinely concerned about environment, politics, capital, and the remaining 99% are just fundamentally uncreative, joyless people who use these talking points as a cover because they don't want to be found out

Where does that conviction come from? What would be their motivation? Being against AI is not some convenient mainstream thing you just do without genuine reason. The mainstream thing is to embrace AI and not care about the external effects.

And what is creative about saying "this is super useful to me" (and I don't really question your reality there) while ignoring the external costs of one's benefits? TBH: That sounds more opportunistic and maybe hedonistic than creative.

I don't know how active you are on social media these days, but do humor the possibility that you're partly to fully oblivious to the very specific behavior the anti AI camp repeatedly engages in, and that maybe you're well within the 1% I mentioned.

That's a troll army using AI as an excuse to harass people just as they did with other topics before, I guess? I actually mainly heard about that from you. Disgusting. I have an AI critical bubble over at mastodon and that one is very factual. So in my world, the genuine criticism is more present.

What does "mainstream" or "not mainstream" have to do with anything? And what do you mean by "mainstream": who, where, when?

It was my assumption that the 99% were the ones not having genuine reasons for being anti AI but just being against it because it was what "one does right now" (my definition of mainstream). It became clear afterwards the the trolls using AI as a target for their trolling were meant with the 99%.

💯 this was a discussion on Ricky Gervais Show years ago between Karl Pilkington and Stephen Merchant. What could be done is plenty fascinating, especially when getting high and staring up at the night sky. What is done is where we go when we're building extensibly.

i love the "you cant even do simple thing" takes because why would i do a thing manually that takes 30 seconds when i could do it with AI in 2 seconds? Like even if you think AI isn't good at coding, speeding up minor simple inconveniences feels like the one of the best uses of it
