The whole world's economies are mostly driven by consumerism. Even the #UNSDG focus on consumerism. As buyers we can choose to buy plastic products or not. Manufacturers want money more than sustainability. If we want sustainability, then that's where we need to spend our income.

IMO every product that is brought to market should have a full lifecycle associated with it, so the impact can be measured and known by governments and consumers. Anything that can’t be repaired or recycled should have a tax imposed

Keep in mind that plastic is a by-product of petroleum refining. We stop using petroleum products and plastic will get prohibitively expensive. Save your best plastic collectables. They will someday be valuable.

Well, depending on the type of plastic. My mom tried to save some late 80s to early 90s Barbies for future grandkids and they started breaking down despite being in temp controlled storage.

Like the Ouroboros capitalism is devouring the sustainability of our planet. For centuries societies have known $$ corrupts governments. If we do not tax billionaires out of existence NOW and redirect that money towards mitigating climate catastrophe humanity is screwed. Time is running out. ⏰

The ruling class, the Epstein elites, care nothing for the future. They feel they have resources sufficient to insulate their kind from the ramifications of their wealth acquisition activities. We need to stop them, now.

We won't get rid of plastics in packaging if liquids. Glass weight vs. plastics is much greater. Shipping costs would go up and of course that cost would be passed on to consumers.

Every industry will eventually need to fully mitigate all of its processes, or we will end up living in a toxic hell. Let's dump it on the great great grand kids..... Or... we start now. And extract wealth without creating death. The planet is a biome, and we are wounding ourselves.

And it turns out that ridding the world of the CEOs who push for environmental destruction has additional benefits. The number of truly influential CEOs is remarkably small, and they are pretty well connected...so rid the world of the Epstein crowd, and many other issues solve themselves!

They don't care about the planet. They don't care about the people or animals They're all going to be dead and gone by the time what they're doing destroys everyone. All about money and greed.

I remember when I 1st seen this pic. That tiny lil seahorse dealing w/what we as humans did to his home&life. So depressing. I seen how Crows are picking up cigarette butts& throwing them away in exchange for treats. That isn't their job, but they've always been better than us...all animals are.

Heartbreaking, absolutely fucking heartbreaking. I have been recycling and adamant for 30 years with this shit. Only to learn that all my stress and hard work. And everything that I fucking freaked out about doesn't mean a goddam fucking thing. #Carney Do Better. Absolutely disgusted in this

“Plastic, says Gardiner, is “the foundational material of modern consumerism”. It is undoubtedly useful, and because so much was being produced, it is cheap and widely available. Products started appearing, […] that used to be reusable. And disposability meant more profit.” So compelling!

This. Maybe it costs a little more to buy beverages in glass. We take back our glass cold brew growlers, sanitize them & reuse them until they break (extremely rare) hundreds of times req less virgin sand & embodied energy. To scale businesses need credits or cost of procuder waste responsibility

When your entire focus in the earnings for the next quarter, you don't give much thought to long term consequences. I believe the mentality is, "I'll be retired with a big bonus before the shit hits the fan".

Well, it’s really too late. Clothes made of microfibre, polyester, nylon all types of plastic. Microfibre bedding, towels. These all release micro fibre into the washing machine, eventually making its way into rivers. This has been going on for decades. It now resides in every living thing.

So, unless we can go back to cotton, linen, wool, and other natural fibres, cellophane, butcher paper, wax paper we will still have all the waste fabric and of course all the plastics that we have become accustomed to-toys, dishes, decor etc. oof, just a bit depressing.

Is there a way we can all push food manufacturers to stop with all the plastic. My one little voice and my shopping doesn’t seem to make an impact. Seems like every day there is more and more in plastic

They lacked the brains and the ability to see forward back them, that time has caught up to them and they have no option now to still implement those old agendas. What a sad bunch of people and they’re ruining the world and the future

Can we go back to using glass, for instance? Would that even be feasible? Plastics are unavoidable in the medical field, and yet the thing that is helping us stay alive is also polluting our air, killing our wildlife, and fouling our water. We’ve signed a deal with the devil.

If Coca Cola could do glass however bloody long ago I'm sure they can do it now too if they were willing. Sure it's more expensive and energy demanding to produce but the thing with glass is, once you make a container once, as long as it doesn't break you can just re-use it.

The planet is doomed. Maybe without humans it will recover. It’s been around for 5 billion years but it only took 30,000 for humans to ruin it. They’re like a virus.
