i think, end of the day, the real problem with Bluesky is that most of its users are here *because* they want to be in a bubble. and they can tell themselves that it’s just about not being around Nazis it supporting Musk, and that’s part of it, but also there’s a palpable desire to be ensconced.

I dunno for some of us, there’s a palpable desire not to be harassed, get rape threats etc. And my feed was heavily curated and my blocking finger works. I have plenty of exposure to right wing people and ideas IRL.

i've had *followers* DM me to wish my cancer comes back and kills me, and people who've said it was too bad my family weren't killed in the holocaust to prevent my birth. there's less of that here, but it exists.

I don’t doubt your experience but consider that Twitter may be quite a bit worse for women and POC who write about politics over there and no one is obligated to put up with that shit on the off chance that there might be a few good faith people who disagree with us

nowhere here have i said that people should use twitter. in fact, the point of the thread is that even to the degree i use it, i'd actually prefer not to. but my friends refuse to come here because the culture fucking sucks here, too, and at least they're already used to the garbage of twitter.

You keep asserting that the culture here sucks, and people keep saying that they're genuinely not experiencing this, especially vs. X. Do you agree with your friends? I'm seeing more sports content here, and film content. Feels as if this is an opportunity for someone to build what they don't see.

Well I’ve been on forums and all sorts of internet communities since the Stone Ages and I’d describe blueskyy as the middle aged curmudgeon platform but the culture in my experience is healthier than most web and social communities I’ve been in

i don't know that i find any social media platforms particularly healthy, and i probably shouldn't be on any of them, but i'm sure that's better dealt with in therapy lol

Stop besieging where people are. We are information refugees and have ended up on the shores of Bluesky. It is not any fault of mine the power-hungry of the media sphere have consolidated cess pools for us to dodge.
