i think, end of the day, the real problem with Bluesky is that most of its users are here *because* they want to be in a bubble. and they can tell themselves that it’s just about not being around Nazis it supporting Musk, and that’s part of it, but also there’s a palpable desire to be ensconced.

...ratioed's, poo & clown smileys, idiotic manipulative non-replies, mostly syllogisms, false dichotomies, koo-koo assertions without proof etc, etc, etc It's literally impossible to have your own clean blog on Xhitter. And most of them won't even be actual livee people but Artificial Idiot bots.

Why are you ignoring the elephant in the room? On Xhitter, if botnet wants you gone, they immediately send a gazillion of turd-slinging idiotic comments you can't block or delete. Normal people are unable to have any talk among the sea of literal shit-slinging. A viewer from outside will just see...

You should have started by saying you still like X and think it’s fun. I could have stopped reading then and saved some time.

Bullshit. I'd love to be on Twitter telling Nazis to get fucked. I absolutely adore making those pussies cry and look stupid. But just like I don't do at Target because they suck, I don't support Musk. Because (just like here) ultimately Twitter doesn't matter so why do it?

I think this thread gets at something important: social media is dead! It simply isn’t where good conversations happen. I use Bluesky precisely for the low boil, low algo, links+ info+temp check space it’s good for. A laugh, an outrage. X is 10x worse. It def does not rep real engagements either.

Roiling exciting conversations = people arguing that women shouldn’t have the right to vote, don’t belong in the workplace and should be in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant, trans people should be sent to mental hospitals and chattel slavery should be brought back for black people. No thanks.

You could've said "I don't have a backbone and prioritize childish levels of dopamine over human rights and the safety of POC, women, and the entire fucking LGBTQIA++++++++ community" and it would've only taken one single post you fucking moron

True. From what I’ve seen so far, Bluesky actually hits back with way more vitriol than X if you dare to step outside the echo chamber. I've had people stalk me over several posts and insult me for saying relatively banal stuff like "I think LLMs are useful".

I can see where you’re coming from. I am only emboldened to spit a lot of venomous acid at fascism on Bluesky because I’m in a protective bubble where no one is going to attack me for my vitriol or convince me I’m wrong about fascisms potential. Would I say this same stuff on The Fascist Site? No.

If you’re point is that this makes choosing a protective enclosed space in which to freely air your condemnations an act of cowardice, I cannot argue with you. If your point is that this cuts down on stimulating back & forth engagement? I respectfully disagree. I’ve only been on here since January,

but that hasn’t been my experience. Sorry for dropping in and leaving my opinions on your floor. I just felt like this post applied to me personally because I did choose Bluesky because of its reputation for being anti-fascist, and I stand by it, even if you don’t respect my choice to do so.

i grew up on the internet and long ago realized that's an impossibility. of course, we're just a couple more idiots to add to the pile.

The truth is that men and women usually interact in very different ways. Women are more concerned with getting along than men are. Men are more concerned with making and defending a solid point, even if it offends others. Bluesky is female, X is male. Overall, not in every detail.

Isn't that basically normal? "I would like the places where I spend time to be full of people I enjoy being around" is an extremely normal and rational desire. If people want the "global town square" that's fine but lots of people don't!

Here’s the thing; it’s not an echo chamber. It’s the Galapagos. In the absence of Trumpers the differences between other factions are more apparent. I’ve realized this trying to explain the kinds of debates we have here to people outside Bluesky.

I don't agree with you. I would absolutely love it if all those people on Twitter would come over here, except for the troll farm accounts and troll bots (useful and helpful bots are welcome). The sports reporting on Bluesky is very poor, but I deleted my Twitter account and will never go back.

Yahoo! more bubble discourse! I was worried we would run out of guys with bubble juice to blow hot air into and watch the bubbles float and disappear without a trace but you came through. Look at the pretty bubble discourse everyone!

it's why despite the activity on here, and more people clicking links, etc, the site still gives people bad vibes. the pile-ons are one thing, but those happen on all social media. it's that the typical mode here is one of distanced engagement, occasionally doing a 180 into angry gatekeeping.

We left the Nazi Bar for the hipster bar across the street - better overall clientele, but sometimes shit gets nasty when you play air hockey with same guys drinking pickle backs every night.

'people' — it gives 'people' bad vibes. Which people exactly? YOU don't like it, that's totally fine, you do you. Just say "I don't like it", no need to hide behind this 'people' thing.

statistically speaking, Bluesky is basically proven at this point to have much better clickthrough rates overall, but it really depends on the nature of your engagement here. Brandon was the one complaining on X, and like he literally only comes here to post links. that doesn't work.

and fwiw, the users are definitely the problem here, because in a way it's why they came here. to escape the constant, ugly drama of other sites and protect against that. but the platform itself is a problem. so much effort toward self-moderation has meant a culture of people talking to themselves.

when this critique is made, it often feels like it's about politics, like the answer is to just let the Nazis on here, but that misses why X, despite it all, is still a more fun place. it's because the "no fucks given" style there means *more* willingness to engage in roiling, exciting conversation.

Getting to have back and forths with race science enthusiasts, crypto grifters, and bots (with periodic interruptions for AI-generated CSAM) does not amount to roiling, exciting conversation

> "but that misses why X, despite it all, is still a more fun place" I thought it was incredibly toxic, and there seemed to be obvious swarming of troll farm and bot accounts. The level of viciousness drove me away. It was very much not fun. But, it might depend on who you're interacting with. 1/

what i see a lot on Bluesky are what i'd call dead-end conversations. it's either easy discourse happening at a low boil, or people being yelled at over a take, with not enough in between, where the risk of misunderstanding produces engaged discussion. this site doesn't often abide that risk.

I don't think anyone's stopping idiots from being here? But the way blocks work they become irrelevant. Some of these criticisms are valid but I don't think the conclusion that x is more fun because of some sort of "no fucks given" stance is warranted.

In your experience, what was the best result of being in the "roiling, exciting conversation"? Was it the death threats? Or the voicemails calling you a "n--- lover"? No, wait, the lawsuit? Maybe the campaign to get you fired? Those are mine, anyway. Hard to pick just one. So much excitement!

Honestly I left twitter bc the idea of helping Elon Musk garner wealth in any way shape or form even as a nobody was prohibitive

The fact you’re helping legitimize a a site designed to promote fascist outcomes, let alone finding it “fun” and “exciting”, means I can’t trust anything you say. It’s just so much hot air written to justify why you choose to remain on X.

I left X during the "great liberal Packer fan" migration after the election to get away from "politics" invading my sports feed. Didn't exactly work, lol. Could really use an "independent" sports social media site. (NOT looking at you, Bleacher Report.)

I left twitter because I don't want to support a neo nazi transphobe who doomed thousands to starvation and disease by gleefully dismantling USAID. But hey, you enjoy your conversations over there, that's what really matters, right?

like you're expecting a new feed to be the same as it, which again is weird. You make use of a platform the way you want. If you want more hate, stay on X.

I'm here because I realized that on FB and Xitter I was contributing to, and being manipulated to contribute to, the degradation of our capacity for shared objective reality. Those 2 platforms forthrightly have agendas that are antithetical to my own, which I was contributing to, so I left.

I dunno for some of us, there’s a palpable desire not to be harassed, get rape threats etc. And my feed was heavily curated and my blocking finger works. I have plenty of exposure to right wing people and ideas IRL.

i've had *followers* DM me to wish my cancer comes back and kills me, and people who've said it was too bad my family weren't killed in the holocaust to prevent my birth. there's less of that here, but it exists.

I don’t doubt your experience but consider that Twitter may be quite a bit worse for women and POC who write about politics over there and no one is obligated to put up with that shit on the off chance that there might be a few good faith people who disagree with us

It's def not just politics, though I think the idea of Bluesky as the "good guy" social media plays a big part in it. Even in my wrestling circles, you get pile-ons from folk if you criticize AEW in the least; its this toxic positivity/gatekeeping thing.

At the end of the day it all comes down to X having many more active people, from diverse places and background. I'd add mostly younger too. While bsky has been on a daily users decline since early 2025. It can only be changed by a new influx of people, who don't have to come here only.. (1/2)

See, the thing with that is, I don't need to get into fights defending my opinions from 14 year-old Roblox-cooked Jr Nazis to feel like my ideas are correct and I'm righteously intelligent. I feel that way just waking up in the morning and existing. If you DON'T, that sounds like a "you" problem.

...because Musk and Trump are awful but also cause this app will have finally added the features still missing. From the looks of it by the end of the year it'll become possible to private post and if adding that doesn't shuffle the user base then this place will always remain the niche it's now

Comparing BSky to × is also weak. Musk didn't make it, he purchased it. Got rid of all the actual twitter people. So I'm not surprised by your opinion.

Imma keep it real with you. If you like hanging out at the Nazi bar better go there 🤷🏻‍♂️ who gaf about this masturbatory essay on how bad Bluesky is, how is hating Bluesky real lol close your eyes lol go outside.

It's true. Most of my problems are when anything I do or say "escapes containment" and randos who don't get it start trying to get smart The real problem is trying to find others who are like-minded and linking up lol

If a chronological feed of people I follow with a nuclear block = bubble then I guess sign me up. Even in "non bubble" Twitter days I dont think spending time with 500 Josh Barro clones was really "bubble escaping"

These self-imposed bubbles can be restrictive The other day I replied to a post "If you don't support Bernie's 5% wealth tax, tell me why." I stated wealthier people should pay higher income/LTCG taxes, an annual wealth tax was problematic, citing that Sweden etc dropped theirs, etc I was blocked.

I just followed you to point out that, while I don't necessarily disagree with this thread (and have enjoyed many of your other posts), it is ironic that you only let followers reply to your posts. That creates its own bubble and limits the opportunities for free-flowing discussion.

Corey should consider that he might just be a boring, whiney bitch and we are all tired of people like him. Also, we are tired of living in a hate fueled society. The only part of Twitter I miss is Black Twitter.

consider for a moment that my critique here is not *only* of the users on the site, but also the actual design of the site itself

Corey Atad@coreyatad.com

one change Bluesky could make that'd make *me* and maybe only me happy is if i could set notifications to see both people i follow *and* people who follow me. that missing feature is actually why i lock replies to followers only. otherwise notifications get really unmanageable.

The fact that I had to follow you to reply shows who the actual bubble is around. And it ain't us, Corey. If we're all in a bubble why did you block those of us who don't follow you from replying? it's almost like WE'RE not a bubble and your whole 20 post screed is a bunch of pathetic hypocrisy.

i should point out that the original goal of social media was to be surrounded by people you enjoy, not argue 24/7 and be exposed to constant ragebait. in that regard bluesky is significantly better than X and even threads. X has warped your idea of what a social media should actually be like

Frankly, it’s nice to reply/comment once in a while, but I’m here because there *aren’t* "roiling conversations." I like checking in through the day for news and insights that aren’t screaming at me in the posts or the replies. It’s my bubble like a morning paper used to be: quiet and text-based.

"The real problem with my local is that it's somewhere I go to hang out with people I like. It really should be somewhere I have to brace myself for outright confrontation with total dickheads, whose opinions I am unable to learn about literally anywhere else."
