Rand Paul, Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell and Lisa Murkowski. Haven't they all voted against or resisted (relatively speaking) Trump before? Perhaps these are four GOP senators who want to ensure they will be welcomed in Canada when they flee the U.S. out of a concern for high-story windows.

Susan Collins wins here in Maine partly by cosplaying as an "independent maverick" who is "above politics". Whenever there is a vote with a completely certain outcome, she is given permission by the GOP to vote against them to maintain that image. She's never actually resisted the GOP leadership.

Yes, the've all seen what happens to colleagues who stand up to Trump's plans without implicit permission to do so (and only to protect their seats). Kinzinger, Cheney... It shouldn't take a tremendous act of courage to do what's right for the American people. I mean, that's the job description!

An enormous amount of American manufacturing relies heavily on Canada. From cheap metals, to cheap wood, to cheap oil. It’s all a huge net gain to the US, which Trump has wildly reframed as a loss. They simply can’t spool up their “made in America” plans if they cut off Canada.

Cutting off Canada by killing the autopact and hurting people, US manufacturing, agricultural, etc, etc sectors reminds us that we still have allies that can be trusted. And lots of other trade deals to exploit.

Unfortunately Canada will never again be the partner it was after this. This will in the long term cost the US hundreds of billions if not Trillions even after the tariffs are rescinded. (Which on their own will cost the US trillions)

And while the US has oil, it costs more, they may or may not be able to eventually supply the metals but that’ll take a long time, and they simply Don’t have the lumber supplies Canada does and never will. (Think housing).

That's great, Senator Booker! So proud of you and pleased these four republican senators are speaking up! Now, what to do about Mike Johnson and the House measure that disallows a vote on the measure just passed in the Senate to end Trump's economic emergency declaration that allows these tariffs?

First, thank you for replying. Second, though I am a against Zionism for the simple fact that I do not believe you can have a democracy based on religion, I have no problem with your position as long as it rejects colonialism and accepts the 1967 borders, with a free Palestine.

Bibi needs to go--The Jews can defend their homeland of Israel from genocide without dictatorship. But sadly, constant war seems to make a nation radical. The baffling thing is the USA acting like radicals in war. Our "war" is all made-up paranoid fantasy for election politics ...

Just like with every other authoritarian regime in history Bibi needed, and allowed funding of Hamas, to have an effective boogeyman, stoking the radical sentiments in his own country which he relied on. When you have a war monger in charge you will have constant war.

The logical fallacy you are demonstrating is the straw man: a person is celebrating getting rid of tariffs, and you bring up a man who is directing the death of tens of thousands of people. Logical question: how can a party of small govt and capitalism support expanding interference to free trade?

I'm sorry, but you clearly do not understand what a logical fallacy is. My comment has nothing to do with tariffs at all. I can agree with them about tariffs while still pointing out that they are a massive hypocrite in their support of fascist in Israel. Did you see their profile name?

This means nothing. The house won’t let this take one breath on their chambers…please don’t give credence to Paul and McConnell who are doing this in a desperate attempt to keep the GOP vote in Kentucky. Collins and Murkowski? Their days are numbered. Their constituents are going to vote blue.

I don't agree on several levels. This is the first crack in the armor. How come they always look to the women to stick their neck out first. Wisconsin is showing the way. The House committee can be discharged.

Thank you for showing leadership in these times. Can’t wait to see the resistance gain momentum. Just left a message with my GOP rep (+9 in 2022) demanding the house follow the senate’s lead.

He threw a temper tantrum when there was a bilateral revolt against him trying to prevent new parents from voting by proxy & recessed the house until next week. & he ultimately decides what comes to the floor. But I think there are ways around that, w/ enough support. I think…

What pressure can you put on Mike (no bank account) Johnson to bring the Res. to the floor for a vote. His all days are one day is a blatant viscous excuse that cannot stand. We can’t let Trumps fake emergency ruin our economy with these stupid tariffs.

Physical pressure . If I did not want to be suspended , I would spell out in pretty graphic detail what voters need to do to Speaker Johnson and all other Republicans . If anyone lives in his neighborhood...they have the means .

One country down, how many to go? The silent majority republicans know this is fatal to the American economy even though they say otherwise. It is time for them to take back the Constitutional control of the purse from trump. There was no justification for allowing it. There was no emergency. Resist

At this point, there are no bills that can be drafted by Republicans to impede Donald Musk's "bull in a China shop" regime. The only way to save their jobs is to draft the articles of impeachment and follow through this time.

If Collins and Murkowski could be persuaded to switch party allegiance to independent, they could save the nation. Can you have a serious chat with them? It shouldn't need more than ten hours this time.

Seriously. It is long past time for both of them to own up to their inner reasoning. They’ll be better off in their next elections if they truly caucused with Dems. Susan Collins, especially.

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Beautiful. Masterful. Heartfelt. You are a Hero and a force to be reckoned with… #Bravo now rest your voice. Rest your body. And we will keep on keeping on; thanks for being the inspiration, being that beacon of hope, & an eloquent leader we hv all needed in this moment #CoryBooker 💙 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Please get with AOC,Bernie,walz. I want to see a united front #democracy #democracia #democrat #republican #america #fucktrump #usa #nokings #resistfacism #notmypresident #bluewave #putinspoodle #patriot #powerofthepeople #50501movement #move.org #shutdowngovernment

But Mike Johnson, who cheetoputin saved , is owned by cheetoputin trump. He stopped Congress from being able to do the same. Republicans must end Mike Johnsons leadership. The republican voters are mad. They are watching and voting to save America, NOT trump. Vote out the kiss ass Republicans.

What I understand is even if he claims to take away taxes on those extra sources, those extra dollars are just going to burn in products that are much more expensive. You won't see the gains if almost every imported products is much more expensive to buy.

What Trump is doing is bold and risky. That's certain. On the other hand, continuing on the current path with huge deficits and SS/Medicare going broke, was certain doom. And when SS/Medicare hits the wall, the decline will accelerate. The status quo failed and something needed to be done.

The Trump Tariff Tax is the largest tax increase in the history of the USA. It will fund the largest tax cut in history — to the mega wealthy. Could get same benefits you tout without tariffs if we just raised the marginal tax rate on the wealthy. Without the economic chaos.

Tax on tips is a trap that let’s them recatogorize more income as “tips” and lets employers keep underpaying employers. No way I support that. I’d rather we do like states that have ended the tipped wage and raised the minimum wage.

Mike....do you seriously think this is going to happen? Anyone earning $150,000.00 will pay no taxes? Has anyone guaranteed that? What about the tariffs you will have to pay? They are taxes. Presently you are paying them for cdn aluminum/steel/oil/cars (made in the states)/more to come!

Yes. It’s a waist of time celebrating a few self serving GoP who for a change, did something that served all of USA and the global economy. Focus on the deplorable senators who capitulated to dimwit POTUS.

From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU SENATOR BOOKER!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

Thank you @corybooker.com for sacrificing your health to do this for all Americans. The only other person I can think of that would do the same is President Jimmy Carter. He believed in feeding the hungry & housing the homeless. You are both public servants. I always called myself a public servant.

I think it was your speech that moved those 4 Republicans. Remember all those times we wanted Republicans to vote with Democrats? When asked by reporters about their vote they hem & hawed pro & con views thinking they might vote with Dems and they always backed down.

Want to know what would be a real solution? stripping the president of their ability to unilaterally impose tariffs - imposing tariffs is a massive economic decision and should involve a consensus between the president and the house not one branch of government deciding to do whatever it feels like.

So true AOC is so compromised. So is Whitehouse, terribly compromised. Not to mention Sanders, who caucuses with Dems, so compromised. Oh, and Swallwell, so compromised. And those terrible AGs, like Kris Mayes, compromised Jasmine Crockett, what a wimp. And Warren so compromised, WTF is the CPB?
