Get your pumpkin carving kit *now* before it's later tonight and you convince yourself a steak knife will work just fine, but it won't and you'll be posting on Bluesky saying, "I just lacerated myself carving a pumpkin. CPSC is going to be so disappointed in me :( "

Likewise, if your sewing project doesn't have a bloodstain (of determined or indeterminate provenance), did you even make it?

I flick an inch of my katana from its sheathe, then slam it back in. There is a moment of silence before chunks of pumpkin fall to the floor with muted thunks. I grimace; my hand has a huge cut on it. I should have used a pumpkin carving kit.

Bold assumption that I’d need a pumpkin , when I’ve mangled myself just attempting to retrieve a pocket knife from my satchel. Good thing I have a first aid kit , *also* in my satchel.

I carved a pumpkin with a steak knife as a mandatory school project at a private school in the early 2000s. What do you have to say to that? :p

(Note i am not saying people should carve pumpkins with steak knives, just highlighting how crazy people can be expecting 13 year olds to do it)

It might seem that way at first because the steak knife is so sturdy, but it's actually very easy for your hand to slip while carving angles on a pumpkin. A pumpkin carving tool has much better grip and most won't cut you if you slip.

If I owned a steak knife, I’d probably try to test this. Fortunately for my fingers, though, I do not own a steak knife. Or a pumpkin. I have a bunch of fake pumpkins I’ve carved over the years, but no real ones.
