Therein lies the problem. ICE is terrorizing Los Angeles, and local police are choosing not to enforce the law banning masked federal agents. This is how trust collapses.

Then, if you’re approached by someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer wearing a mask, presume they’re lying and trying to cause you harm. That permits self-defense, even if lethality is deployed.

Newsome is cautious that Trump will bring down the same horror in Los Angeles or San Francisco. DHS/ICE are like roving bands of marauders who terrorize towns/cities ... but especially Democratic Governors of those cities. "Body cameras" won't do it; they can be turned on/off. UNMASK them.

It would be incredible difficult for individual officers to enforce such a law. What needs to be done is the Ca AG needs to put leverage on the ICE leadership working in Ca to comply. Not sure how that works, but smart attorneys could figure it out.

Can the mayor and city council not fire the chief of police? I think most of the problem with police is they want to do a different job than the one they were hired for and the people who are supposed to be managing them are too spineless to do the job *they* have been hired for, so fucking fire em.

The plan? It is to *continue* to be complicit. He in in no way opposed to the current administration (his social media team might pretend to be) and both CA Gov and US Pres are loyal to IS RE AL first. That’s it.

Just wondering if they actually built an enforcement mechanism into the law. Like exactly what are the LAPD supposed to do? Actually arrest them, or are the agents given a citation and a fine. I mean that's a big difference.

The ops need to go to jail and put on suspension until they properly do their job. If they refuse or decline to do their job as required they should be fired. The National Guard can fill in until it gets straightened out... or perhaps create a militia. Perhaps the immigrants can do the job properly.

Fire every stinking cop who refuses to enforce the law. Every police agency from the po-dunk town to the big city cops is corrupt. It has gotten really bad since 9/11 and militarization of all the LEOs. There is so much work to do. Mr. Rogers wouldn't encourage looking for helpers anymore.

Where is the national outcry about agents wearing masks? This is some third world dictator stuff. The media and politicians should be speaking out against masked agents every single day. It’s outrageous.

Third world dictators tend to be less problematic than first world dictators with world dominating ambitions and an industrial base for bringing gas, nukes, and drone with automatic weapons to bear. Small countries tend to solve their dictator problems and move toward more inclusion.

The problem is, when municipal police or the state national guard engage with ICE to deter their criminal actions, we will have Civil War II. It will be totally Trump’s doing and his fault. Until then, the governors and mayors and AGs need to be doing much more legal and admin pushback

Law Enforcement in masks without ID is boggling my mind. First is it a terrifying image of brutal Dictatorships oppressing Citizens with no accountability. Second, how can citizens discern between legitimate law enforcement and rapists & killers ? The "guns drawn" thing is crazy. No masks !!

Enforcement means have a law that says “stand your ground” give the citizens right to protect themselves against mask men who refused to identify themselves.

A new CoP would change nothing. Fire every single one whole refuses. Sure most would game it for a bit, but if you asked citizens to help reform the force by documenting (video) this you'd set yourself up for successfully reforming the LAPD cesspool. Won't happen, but you could make it work.

Christopher. The POLICE VOTED GOP and VOTED anti-American. The POLICE have laws they could have ALREADY enforced? Why didn't they? The POLICE ARE a branch of the New ICE! What did you expect?

Actually, no. There is plenty to be angry about without resorting to false narratives. Dan White of San Francisco, former SFPD, and resigned from Board of Supes, murdered Milk and Moscone in SF. Nothing to do with LAPD.

There was never trust and this totally predictable. They got 2 types of cancer but only want to treat (& by treat I mean reduce a few symptoms- not cure) one type. But the 1st cancer got something to say about that

The rule of law being eroded… by law enforcement. LAPD has been a department in crisis (filled with bad actors and a highly toxic culture) for many decades. This is the natural fruition of their internal culture.

I understand that local police have been put into a difficult position by this administration. BUT...their oath is to enforce local laws and protect lives, property and the civil rights of the people they serve. None of the local police forces are doing enough.

How many of LA officers are joining raids when they are off duty? How many officers personally know someone who left the force and joined ICE. I know locally we’ve had deputies leave for ICE recruitment. I’m really happy to hear that ICE isn’t getting paid. Lmao.

If federal agents have to wear masks to avoid retribution for their actions it is highly likely that their actions are illegal and they want to avoid arrest in the future. And they are ashamed of what they are doing for money.!!! Like any bank robbers or murderers would be.

Exactly. Your local police dept is not your friend. Tbf though, I wouldn’t be confident in their ability to actually enforce this anyway. They’re outnumbered and outgunned.

Unfortunately, this was never going to be enforced bc it’s not feasible and was just a political statement. LAPD isn’t going to get into a shootout with ICE. Unless this regime is removed and prosecuted for their crimes this will only get worse.

I get it, believe me. This whole thing was a performative waste of time. This law was never going to be enforced. The Dems knew that full well. Newsom doesn’t want the LAPD to get into a shootout with ICE. That would next level this takeover in a way even Newsom doesn’t want.

I’m just going to keep saying it—not creating special task forces to specifically deal with DHS abuse & criminal copycats has been the key failing of Blue city/state leaders for the past year. Bass has even less excuse, as the successful LAPD Community Safety Partnership is a perfect template.

There is no time like the present for Blue Governors, Mayors, County Boards, and City Councils to do what I’ve been petitioning for months now; create *special task forces* that deal directly and exclusively with DHS overreach & criminal copycats. Most state & city cops won’t do it on their own.

LAPD made it clear from the start that they are fully on board with the federal assault upon LA residents, & relish the opportunity to harass & assault the people that they are paid & took an oath to protect. It's important to note that no disciplinary action has been taken against these officers.

Maybe California should follow NY's lead, and create a Legal Observation Project.

My office is launching the Legal Observation Project, a new initiative to send trained legal observers to monitor and document federal immigration enforcement in New York. I'll always protect New Yorkers' constitutional rights.
