Sure, they always sign up for the fish but are totally useless when it comes to ropes. My pirate days sadly ended with the immortal "Damnit, stop playing and cast off!"

Obviously cats are magic and can see souls. Once your body no longer contains your soul it's just meat. Eating free meat is sensible. This is also why cats spend so much time staring at "nothing." We're surrounded by ghosts all the time, but only the cats see them.
