Are you sure you don’t want to ask Claude to help write this as a future better writer-you? 😉 But seriously: What vivid pictures you conjured up on this reader’s mind! (And it seems like we *may* have overlapped at the R tho I was on the 3rd floor.)

Dan, I love this article. We lived the same childhood and teen years. I couldn’t believe that nbc would betray that team with that godawful Jerry Springer. Carol Marin and Ron Magers were the perfect news team. What a stupid, cynical choice to try to “jazz” up the news, betraying our city. Ugh.

On 9/11 I had lived in Chicago for only five years, but my wife grew up here and while we were watching the coverage after the towers fell she said, “Oh my God, that’s Carol Marin”—covered in the ghastly white soot that blew out of the bottom floors

Thanks for this. I spent several years delivering newspapers as a boy. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I always read the paper before running my route. Don’t know how many 11, 12, 13 year olds are reading the paper now, but my life and world view were shaped immensely by the experience.

When I was on the Peabody awards jury, the Peabodys awarded her and her team for their reporting on Laquan McDonald. Meeting her at the ceremony was such a high point. Thanks for this post.!

Had a similar experience watching her when I grew up and she belongs on the Chicago journalism Mt. Rushmore. Great article.
