Not exactly a vet, but having observed how this site works: Engagement is important. Since there is no Algo to push your posts to new people, you get as much as you give, if you follow no one, you’ll see no one. This site isn’t like Twitter, which punishes you for a “bad” follower/ing ratio. ^_^

It's a social platform. Be social. Find your people, use the lists, engage with existing communities. Make your face a familiar one by regularly showing up in a space. Followers are something you kinda have to earn, certainly at first, by giving people something to stick around for.

People will post when they are making one for a specific niche (like writers for example) and you can comment on their post to ask to be added. If they have enough room left (I think the limit is 160 people?) they will add you! I’ve found a few by searching “writer starter pack” within the app

A lot of big accounts come over here and are puzzled they don’t automatically amass an army of followers. My advice is just pretend it’s 2011 again and you have to actually engage with people and they will engage with you!

One (that I think I got from you!) is to complete your profile info and make a few posts before you start following people—because lots of us will hesitate to follow back if you’re not clearly a human :)

I don’t know if there is a tip that works universally. What I think plays here is authenticity. Be yourself & find those that enjoy engaging w/ you. Add thoughtfulness when you can, & recognize you often won’t get a reply. Be patient, post things that make you happy, & tend to it like a garden.

Become a reply guy. Don't just post, engage in conversations so people see you. Follow lots of people--those you get tired of, you can unfollow later as you titrate your engagement.

Follow more people, looking through the follower lists of people you do follow. Like and reply to interesting posts. Post regularly yourself on a variety of topics. And give it time. Interaction will come. My post from before the current increase, but still relevant and updated.

Just keep quietly doing what you are doing. Find the feeds or starter packs that reflect your interest. Hashtags work. For our use & to search with. Patience is key. I didn't think I was getting much, then suddenly I'm getting quite a lot. Certainly far more than Twitter has done since Muskrat.

Follow a bunch of people quickly so your feed has good stuff to comment on, then comment on it - it's not about getting a viral hit skeet so much as it is about consistent real conversation with other people. You can search topics that interest you and use starter packs to follow quickly.

Seeing some of the new arrivals posting about Bluesky being boring. I hate to break it to you, but if you find Bluesky boring, that's 100% your fault, because the only person working behind the scenes here to make it not boring is… you. Here's some of the “work” that I've done and recommend… 🧵

Authentically engage with people whose work you enjoy. Repost work and artists you like. Get up to your elbows in your community. That’s no algo surfing your work, it’s ok to repost to catch more visibility/time zones etc. jump on trains! It’s sooo fun.

Remember your last year of middle school when everyone knew you and you knew everyone. Then it all flew out the window in your first year of high school. That's what it feels like to go from X to a new platform. Give everyone time to get to know you first.

Been here since day 1 as a first account. Over the last year it’s been dry. No engagement. Shadow banned for my travel stories, basically crickets. Not sure how this will change but so far Threads has been my best off of X departures.

I'd say like in real life, be nice. Like things you genuinely like. Repost things. Follow people, but only after you've set up a profile and a few posts. Comment on other people's posts (nice comments -don't be argumentative or sarcastic. Sarcasm doesn't work in text)

Hashtags work. Participate in trends. Blocking is good here. Some minors use this site, as well as many ace folk. Self tag your 18+ content. If you post a photo, there is a little shield right next to post. You may lable things sexual or nonsexual nudity. Lastly, engage. Like and reskeet.

Also a skeet is a combination of sky and tweet. That's what everyone calls them. Yes you may call them posts. You do not have to announce that you refuse to say skeet.

My advice is to leave. The appeal of this place is that it feels cozy, and while anyone might see my posts, only a few typically will. If you are looking for engagement, you engage with others—just as in real life if you want people to listen to you, you must listen to others. Orate elsewhere.

Show sincere interest in the writing community. Interact with others. Don't wait for them to come looking for you. Most who have been here a year or more have had a HUGE influx of followers over the last few days. Be patient. Be kind. Be interested. Make connections with others.

Whatever you feel like talking about right now, search it in feeds. There probably is one. It helps to find a few of your friends. Most people didn't change their handles that much. And if people seem cool, follow them. The more people you follow the better a timeline you get.

Present yourself. Make a bio, upload a profile and banner image, and create a few posts before you engage people. And then - engage! Mingle. Explore. Use search and hashtags to discover topics you are interested in.

Don't jump onto trends just to avoid feeling alone or desperate to be included. Don't be upset if people block you for misunderstandings or when they set their own boundaries. Give Likes carelessly. Repost things that speak to you. Avoid the addiction of quote dunking. bsky.app/profile/migh...

I understand if people block me. I have no interest in trolling people & people are well within their right to set boundaries in their own personal areas, regardless off the real, or mostly false, assumption of my intentions.
