I like that Motoko's frivolity fits well with her anxieties. She makes light of death a lot, but is clearly anxious over whether she's even "alive".
She is either distracting herself or on a mission, and the OG and new series are lovingly reflecting her both sincere and overcompensated dorkiness.
Oh yeah! Some of the conversations with her mech tech friend are kind of a blend of dork and existentialism, but in the field it's a coinflip as to whether you're dealing with Hardass Major or Literally Draws Goofy Faces On Her Decoys Tagged "Dummy" Major.
Both will kick ass of course.
I loved GITS:SAC, then bought & loved the orinigal manga afterwards. And this is so accurate it's another layer of funny. She really IS that deep & philosophical in the manga, like the other adaptations, but she is ALSO very, VERY bi goober. Its been a welcome surprise to seeing both in the reboot.
Oh he's a timeless Eldritch being of unfathomable power. A trickster god who bends reality at a whim. A spirit of chaos that brings with him the fickle hand of Justice to fell those who mire themselves in hubris.
While looking rather fetching in a dress.
