In a post to Meta’s @Pride group, Alex Schultz, Meta’s CMO, said policies should not get in the way of allowing societal debate and pointed to Roe v. Wade, the landmark abortion case, as an example of “courts getting ahead of society” in the 1970s. -NYT Dead women got ahead of a debate?

The Fediverse has free community-funded and community-developed replacements for these sites. The main thing they're missing is users, something that BSky has proven solvable. Friendica is their Facebook, Lemmy is an *excellent* Reddit clone, and there's Pixelfed as a copy of Instagram.

That's funny because fb was really easy for me to dump and I haven't missed it at all. Whereas insta has my friends and fam. Although, the algorithm changes there have meant I rarely see their content. It's become unusable.

It's the opposite for me. I'm part of a really useful group of alumni from my college, so it's hard to give that up. OTOH, I only ever used insta to keep tabs on what my adult children are doing. So I deleted the app and asked them to send more photos to my Frameo.

Saw the writing on the wall with this & X. Kept repeating myself, made my health bad repeating it. Don’t trust a guy who started by making a website for women ratings. Kept saying where is our art going posting on Insta after he acquired it forcefully. No one listened. Shrugs.

That's the part that shocks me! The former option even requires less work on their part and gets less negative attention That means they really, really want to do this

What a strange turn of events. Everyone has lost their minds over this trans stuff—the left, the right, everyone. Where are the rational, sane, good people? It is not hate speech to say that there are two sexes. Trans people exist and they are humans just like the rest of us.

There's a bunch of discussion, articles & video essays on why what ur saying misses the mark. Insisting on "2 sexes" is reductive & kinda dated thinking, so maybe read more on the discourse and just absorb it, don't argue against, just consider why ppl are saying it. 1st step to intellectual growth

We will continue quibbling about whether karyotypes are sex, each citing our own experts. 🤷‍♂️ But what is the end game? Is it to say that XY males can be "literally" female if they "feel" female? That we should give kids puberty blockers and surgery? These are extremist positions.

No offense, but making money by algorithms to keep people artifically engaged was already pretty close to Momos time tieves … adding that those algos make people usually angry and/or miserable also doesn‘t add karma points … it‘s just now even worse

Now it's okay for Meta: "Women are household objects or property" "LGBT are mentally ill" “I’m a proud racist” "Trance people shouldn’t exist" "Immigrants are trash"... That’s horrifying. The spiral of hate is so easy to unleash, but it can take entire generations to bring people back to civility✨

I mean, I've seen a post by someone who works there that can't quit because they're in the middle of a healthcare emergency This is the insidious nature of employment-based healthcare in the US

Explicitly identifying groups that are okay to attack is new In the past platforms just pared back their hate speech rules and implicitly allowed shit like this

I had thought that the value of a “brand” was directly dependent upon the value of the “products” that it markets to consumers. If Meta products are no longer reliable and therefore valuable to consumers, what value does that brand have?
