I think there's some truth to the "strong men create good times create weak men create hard times" meme. The problem is that the people who most readily embrace it are fascists who think they are strong men in bad times, when they're really weak men who don't know how good they have it.

FYI there is no "real" reason why Rome "fell." Its power waned for the usual, mundane reasons: widening gap between rich and poor, inability to maintain infrastructure, incompetent leadership, pointless wars, endless persecution of marginalized groups who performed vital labor, etc.

On youth gender-affirming care, literally every one of the 50 states currently requires parental consent for children to receive this care except for very narrow exceptions in Washington and Oregon. Meanwhile 27 states have blanket bans on gender affirming care for minors.

It's also worth noting that many of the organizations currently banning trans women are doing so because of pressure from the government. A hands-off approach from a democratic presidency would likely result in organizations making less restrictive policies than they are making now.

27 states currently have blanket bans on trans women competing in women's sports. The issue of trans people in sports polls abysmally. A framework where these decisions are made by sports organizations seems like the strongest way to defend against these blanket statewide bans....
