TD Cowen had a data center themed analyst letter today that said that Oracle may lay off 20-30,000 people or sell Cerner to keep up with the debt on the data centers it’s building for OpenAI.

Oracle also bought Cerner, the second biggest EHR software, in 2022 for $28 billion and has since lost a bunch of customers and promises a “revamp” www.healthcaredive.com/news/oracle-...

Ya' love to see it. I look forward to creditors holding Larry by his ankles and jiggling him upside down until all the spare-change falls out of his pockets and all the plastic fillers and black dye fall out of his face and hair.

Every single time OpenAI and Oracle announced a new data center the very first thing that should’ve been said was the money didn’t exist. It’s been obvious since the beginning. On top of this, Oracle is having trouble raising money from US banks, left only with I imagine SMBC and MUFG

You know what also happens if Oracle can’t spend this much on capex every quarter? NVIDIA stops selling as many GPUs, by which I mean Oracle stops ordering billions of servers through Hon Hai/Foxconn, Quanta, Wistron and Wiwynn, AKA the Taiwanese server manufacturers that really buy the chips.

I'm sorry for those who are losing their jobs but coming from Los Angeles today is proving to be the most satisfying day in some time. May Cassandras continue to be proven right.

They just bought Cerner like 3-4 years ago! They laid off like 5k people over a few years after they bought it, which was as detrimental to my city as losing Sprint to T-Mobile. There aren’t a lot of companies headquartered in KC. I’m just waiting for Garmin and AMC to get bought out at this point.

Isn't their software arm mostly actually imaging and testing, not EHR? I think Epic is the only firm that's actually positioned to be able to fully take on Cerner from an EHR perspective, unless they want to branch out. Which, sure. But then they have to actually take on Epic in the market.

I don't know that much about this, so maybe it's nonsense/out of my lane (reading more now, and I think that's correct). They have some limited EHR, and Epic has pulled away another 10% of market share in the last few years so not a great time to enter against them.

Allscripts? I'm not sure. This is very complex software that has no forgiveness for failure in a very regulated environment. Brent Shafer basically destroyed Cerner through contempt for human capital and this was compounded by the people from Oracle. I don't think old Cerner is recoverable.

Epic won’t buy them, at least as long as Judy Faulkner (Founder/CEO) has her way. I don’t even think her retiring, stepping down, or becoming otherwise indisposed would change that too - she set up a trust that will preserve her desires that will have controlling interest of Epic after she dies
