“You gotta take the good with the bad, smile with the sad. Love what ya got and remember what ya had.” — Project Pat lyrics you could cross stitch on a pillow

It should go back to the original usage for HR and fair/foul at wall. They destroyed plays at the plate with like 8 rule changes in the meantime. ABS is making already insufferable people even worse. But hey, at least you can gamble on every aspect of it.

Well, sure, games are constantly interrupted for petty and pedantic video study and umps sometimes have to make up ghost-runner results to undo wrongly calling a live ball dead and the whole real-time fan experience is provisional, but at least none of this prevents a gigantic obvious blown call

The infield fly rule is about effort relative to infielders, not about the location of the ball or who makes a play on it.

What’s a thing from your area of expertise (or special interest) that you think it would behoove everyone else to know?

My dad invited another Brian Curtin to his GitHub private repo when my account is the oldest and most simple name—briancurtin—so it almost certainly sorts first. Plus, my avatar is a picture of me, same as the one here. Some other BC is going to end up in his will.

"Over the past half-decade, Denver has seen an explosion of clowns." — I'm glad someone has been studying this. The roads are filled with them.

The state's job board that people on unemployment are required to be on lists me as a _strong match_ for a "Retail Associate" job at BEER KEG DEPOT (caps theirs) four hours away. Seems fine. 8 hour commute for a part time job after a 20 year career in software. I'm in.

This rules. I used to have my dad’s catchers gear that was these colors. The shin guards held up well enough that I actually used them for a bit when I was 10 or so. The chest protector was pretty worn out.

NEW: Today is officially Denver's hottest day in over 8 years. 103° officially at DIA = hottest Denver temperature since June 28, 2018 (2,950 days ago). #COwx

I’m listed as the agent for Michael Foord (RIP) in a Disney procurement system that I occasionally get emails about 14 years later. He gave a talk there but it was a hassle to pay him in the UK, so I took the tax hit and PayPal’ed him.

I just turned down an honorarium for an upcoming lecture solely because I didn't want to deal with the endless hassle of registering in their online system as a "university vendor."

Oh yeah, good times! My insurance will be $2800/mo in January via COBRA if I have to go that far, which might be a “great deal.”

Thierry and Zlatan saying they wouldn't have become soccer players because of the costs of the American youth system, then seeing Lalas say it's a great system because it makes a lot of money for some people really sums it all up nicely

I accidentally clicked a "Lengthen" option on a single bullet point of text in an Adobe InDesign document (which currently contains maybe 300 words of text), and 15 minutes later it still hasn't produced a replacement option that it tells me will be 1.2–1.5x the length. Great, thanks.

Dems' "Project 2029" first major policy proposal: an online child safety plan — narrowing Sec. 230, banning social media for kids under 16, promoting phone-free childhoods and more. Already backed by Cory Booker, Mikie Sherrill, Randi Weingarten + Jonathan Haidt. LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I love European hotel breakfast. 100,000,000 glasses stacked up because they are 4 oz. Yes, I’d like 14 orange juices please. I just woke up and I’m American, I need to catch up and then drink out of a comically large water bottle or I will die.

Why does the plate umpire even go to 3U here??? Not even close, and not requested (at least visually). I guess maybe he asks while tagging? On a third strike with a runner on there is some urgency, but it’s a clear “ball, no!” Own the call. This one is not hard on its own. No idea what 3U is doing.

The board consists of three semi-literate car dealers who were the state’s top GOP donors. Their top priority is fighting wokeness in the Potato School by putting up a statue of the confederate general who owned the largest potato farm in the state in 1859.
