Going to be so funny watching people try and act like this never happened one day

PM Carney: "Our goal is AI for all. AI governed by Canadian values, AI accountable to Canadians, AI that serves Canadians. AI for all can make the jobs of Canadian workers more interesting and more rewarding."

Just watched Patrick Boyle’s YouTube from a couple of hours ago on Meta’s loss of $US88B on the Metaverse. The hype for that is a model for the AI hype. Zuckerberg is such a powerful trendsetter.

Avi does seem to be on the right track. The couple centrists he lost have been made up for in kind by actual lefties. I do agree on Singh, for what it's worth, I just don't like the "better than PP" thing cause it gets used by Liberals so much to justify anything Carney does.

Cleaning out my mom's apartment recently and I found a set of these share certificates given to my parents and one for each of my siblings and me.

For a second I read this as you had a way to make the buildouts impossible and I cheered ... then I comprehended the actual statement you were making and my hopes were dashed. Honestly, how do you fight DC builds when the PM is all in?

I’m a retiree, I’m not well versed in technology. But what the fuck is he talking about? Do we have Canadian AI? Do we have digital security based in Canada? Do we secretly control these technologies? How does this make us better, more competitive, healthier. I feel like I know more than he does

That is the central issue many of us have with this seemingly unquestioned belief that ai can do “all the things”. Serious questions and concerns are not being answered or even addressed. The people who are talking seriously about the limits of ai are the ones to listen to.

I'm at least versed in it so I'll give it a shot. "Do we have Canadian AI?": No, not really. There's a couple startups but most things that are using AI are using American or Chinese LLMs, including Canadian companies that are using them.

his AI czar used to be a presenter on the CBC and lost his job on the CBC due to using his job there to engage in an art sale scam... with Mark Carney. Anyway now that guy is my MP

As an American, I was excited for Canada when he was elected because Canada suffered less from the 2008 financial crisis because of Carney. However, he’s bitchmade and beholden to capital and capitulates far too much. I didn’t think he’d be perfect, but he’s worse even by liberal standards.

I’ve said it before, but it’s going to be so infuriating watching the inevitable tell-all documentary about the collapse, and see those responsible as talking heads saying, “EVERYONE bought into AI, it fooled EVERYBODY.”

My hope is that he'll do exploratory "What is good for us?" committees and panels and etc etc; it would be his kind of move. And then with luck, any momentum will die there. But that's hope and luck, and *gestures at everything.*
