Almost everyone in Canada lives in "market housing" and it's always been that way, for better and for worse. Non-market housing was 6% at the high point in the 20c and it's now around 4%.
Farha's history simply does not add up.

Man incidentally I have learned a lot about the Cheesecake Factory today! Apparently rather well respected for cooking and training people to be great chefs? Good on 'em.
thinking fondly again of the college girl at the donut place, who made a little muslim boy bounce giddily out the door after she told him his donut was free, and who waved me away and said "you're good" when it was my turn to pay and then, when asked if there was a deal that day said "i hate my job"
Matt loses his mind, Chris finds a terrifying way to cheat at math, and there's a doctor with a joke name that is actually NOT A JOKE AT ALL! AHHHHH! #FinishItfinishit.transistor.fm/episodes/ep-...
I graduated from library school in 2008 and still owe over $35k in loans for it.
...that's how much I took out that long ago. That's how little the needle has moved.
Imagine...now.
Shoutout to @violetbfox.bsky.social for pulling in some numbers for an issue a few of us (re: not enough of us) have been yelling about for a while now:
The new limits on student loans are going to keep a lot more people out of librarianship - and in more debt, too.

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people!
Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :)
Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.
I may have gone to one of North America's worst library schools, but by golly, they were affordable at the time. Zero loans. Got in got out with an accredited degree. Couldn't really ask for more.
Every living thing has an origin point so I'm not sure why I'm always surprised when I learn that things that are *everywhere* -- chickens, potatoes, for instance -- were once just in one place. Like potatoes are from the Andes, and chickens from southeast Asia.
If you can't afford the land transfer tax -- especially as a brand new homeowner, where it is substantially reduced -- then you should not be buying a home.
The problem is not city fees, provincial fees, national or whatever. The problem is profit-seeking by private parties on housing. That's the whole problem. Moaning about paying less than ten thousand bucks on a land transfer tax...
....rather than directing your ire at the guy who bought his house for ten dollars in 2001 and is now selling for a million. Some people, man. Anything to avoid seeing the real problem.
AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"
I hope workers in other game studios see WoTC unionizing, and see the mass layoffs and BioWare closing and decide it's time to put their foot down. What do we have to lose by unionizing? A job that you're afraid every day you'll be laid off from anyway?
UNIONIZE THE GAME INDUSTRY!
