When Trump dies his sons will announce they've resurrected him in a Trump Phone and it's running for president, and nobody will care.

A recent securities filing spotlighted what triggered Mark Zuckerberg’s months-long power battle with board directors at Meta — a fight that sparked not-so-veiled threats from Zuckerberg and led board members to contemplate quitting.

Actions speak louder than words, personally I was in talks with Epic to get all my game assets on their Fab.com marketplace (for free) but cancelled the deal immediately. If they want slop, let them have slop.

Between Tim Sweeney being an absolute AI chud and the harassment of our beloved @kenney.nl, we've decided to cancel our previously announced Epic Games Store release for Shape Sender Deluxe 🚮

C++ is as important and as dead as Latin.

Andrew Lilley Brinker@alilleybrinker.com

A large number of National Bodies (country-specific standards orgs participating in WG21 at ISO) abstained or voted against approving C++26. NBs vote as units for the approval of a complete draft standard. The main sticking point is about contracts.

Frenemies Season 2 will be Ethan and Steven Crowder finding common ground in how much they hate their ex-wives.

jenny tightpants@jtp.bsky.social

yeah lmao i thought his fans would defend him no matter what at this point. i'm surprised they're not saying it's epic that he cheated on his wife

Today was a perfect day. A lot is wrong with the world. But right here, right now, I couldn't care less.

bushr.at@bushr.at

It's 30°C, a public holiday, and I'm taking my 1 year old daughter to the beach for the first time. She loves swimming in the pool and playing in the sandpit, so I have high hopes for a great day. It's not big or important news, but it's the world to me.

So far the biggest consumers of AI I interact with are: 1. Developers 2. Small business owners ecstatic to replace a graphic design house with their shitty home printer 3. A handful of guys burning themselves out at work keeping busy instead of doing anything useful

This post is unavailable.

There is no world where slop games become the popular norm. Look at how many excellent alternatives to Minecraft, Factorio, etc. etc. have been made over the last decade, and now look at how many people still just play the original. Being able to slop out a good game isn't even close to enough...

jenny tightpants@jtp.bsky.social

when AI was gonna replace real movies everyone was like "no it won't. it can only make slop and it will never be good." but now that ai is making slop games everyone is freaking the fuck out cuz what if one day it can copy a game thats actually good? or what if gamers dont care and like the slop

Seeing Oklab enjoyed and used by so many is mind-boggling! I still can’t quite comprehend that I wrote a blog post that ended up as a web standard and in software everywhere. Best part is seeing so many people say they enjoy Oklab and that it is a tool they regularly use.

Xor@xordev.com

If you need a random color (e.g. procedurally coloring objects), you should use Oklab or Oklch color space instead of RGB or HSV. RGB may span the whole spectrum, but it does not pick fairly (leaning dark/muddy). Oklab is designed to more closely map to how we perceive color

Tim is cringe, and I think it's very telling that he sees 2D games as obsolete. Get his arse Kenney!

It feels like such a monkey's paw wish that we stopped the CBD move only for the stadium to go ahead. At least a CBD campus would've had people in the city regularly, unlike the once in a while traffic nightmare we'll get instead.

The Promised Neverland season 1 is possibly the best TV show I have ever watched and definitely the best anime. The Promised Neverland season 2 is definitely the worst TV show ever made for not just retroactively making season 1 worse, but by spoiling the entire manga.

Nev Fountain@nevfountain.bsky.social

What TV show got so bad it effectively destroyed your appreciation for the show when it was was good?

I could write a whole bunch about Chris but I’ll keep it brief and let him give you his own version! Chris cares deeply about the work, not just how it can look good for today but how it enables for the future it can set up. Any team would be lucky to learn with and from him as a software engineer!

I am looking for my next thing. If you think you know where that could be please reach out.

Found out today that our office's coffee machine has a 4G modem and a camera. Imagine trying to explain any of this to a cold war era spy.

"Oh you snuck in and bugged the kitchen?" "Nah they paid me to install it so we can automatically order more coffee for them"

Remember when self driving cars started hitting the mainstream and there was debate about who would be held accountable in a crash: the driver or the AI provider? Never considered the secret third option of nobody lol teehee

It's awesome knowing my daughter's medical records are just the cost of doing business.

Tassie Devil@tassiedevil.bsky.social

If this had been done by a Chinese AI organisation, there'd be a lot more outrage and fuss. There might even be a 4 Corners investigation. It's an American company, though, so the Australian government will just express grave concern and move on. #auspol

Housing security is central to most social problems IMO. My partner and I had to live with my parents into our late twenties just to afford a modest house on dual incomes anywhere near our friends/work/family.

Young people are expected to either inherit wealth, or partner up and work for 10 years so they can afford a mortgage for the subsequent 30.

Gross! Gross! Gross! Immediate and visceral disgust! Disgust and rage! Disgust at obscenity! Disgust at desecration! Bad! That about sums up my feelings.

Netflix's new reality show "Wonka's Golden Ticket" uses AI Gene Wilder as its host. The beloved comedian passed away in 2016, but his voice lives on in AI form. At least Netflix didn't use AI to create the new Oompa Loompas. What do you think of this AI resurrection? Let us know in the comments 👇

Still the biggest reason I wont use AI tooling. Companies should be held to *higher* standards than individuals. If you train a model on pirated data for yourself, you do you. If OpenAI does it, they should be disintegrated. Same reason why a movie theater can't just play whatever it wants.

Chris Person@papapishu.bsky.social

Have not seen an argument for what to do about copyright theft involved in LLM training that’s not some variant of “oopsie doodle!”

There's something extremely on the nose about this butcher using an AI generated banner on an old office building in the middle of the CBD, kilometers away from any grocery store.

I dare not cross the street to see what kind of abominations are on those A4 printouts that plaster the windows like a drug den in newspapers.

It's kinda interesting that only the abimated visual media get this realism focus. Nobody is demanding that music have even higher fidelity, books to have more visceral descriptions, paintings to be more lifelike. It's really just games and videos that need to be "real".

There's an alternate reality where TypeScript never happened, and instead everyone writes JavaScript with the C preprocessor instead.

Eniko Fox@enikofox.com

this is a public service announcement: you can use the C preprocessor for anything you want. other languages, html, css, text files. there's nothing they can do to stop you

Things I was frightened of as a child: Alien Aliens Alien3 Alien: Resurrection Alien: Resurrection for the PlayStation Love them to death now, but thanks to walking in at exactly the wrong time as a toddler I didn't have the courage to actually watch any of this til I was 13.

Nome@nome.bsky.social

Things I was frightened of as a child: The Sharp Tooth from Land Before Time The Ocean The closet door, in the room in the house where I first saw a shadow person, which was a yawning pit when left open but still infinitely preferable to seeing the things in the mirrored doors when it was closed.

My mum had the Tomb Raider games, my dad had Alien Resurrection, and I had Muppet Racemania. The opening cinematics for both their games terrified toddler aged me.

Here's a thought, just give them patronage for 5 years to make whatever they want and just see what happens. If nothing comes of it then it's a tax write-off like the ACME vs Coyote film was going to be, otherwise it's a hit.

DiscussingFilm@discussingfilm.net

There are currently no active conversations for a full ‘MUPPET SHOW’ series revival. Disney, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures have had difficulties with deciding on a premise for the series that they can all agree on. (Source: Deadline)

Studios have wasted so much for so little. Muppet Christmas Carol had a budget of like $12M and is a defining moment in our culture. Just let the Swedish Chef cook!

Ok so here's a thought. These problems got solved because of Lean being able to actually verify the solution. Final proof was 13M LoC IIRC. Genuinely wonder how much more efficient the LLM was at finding those 13M lines compared to, say, random token selection.

philpax@philpax.me

if you gave me that much computational power, I would not be able to solve Navier-Stokes being able to convert compute into research *is* the noteworthy bit

By allowing training on unlicensed data, we've explicitly allowed and encouraged this. AI isn't coming for your job, companies are coming for your data, and they have a divine right to it because the models are just worth it at any cost, apparently.

tautologer@tautologer.com

holy fucking shit cims.nyu.edu/~tristanb/st...

I suspect this is why inference is so "profitable". Not just do you make decent revenue from the token IO, you also have users paying you to take their potential new training data. Local models with transparent datasets are a bare minimum for this technology IMO.

Today I learned that it's apparently silly to want to have a computer powerful enough to compute the problems I'd like to compute. With this knowledge I assume we'll all agree to hand over our developer machines to the nearest RAM collection station and revive Stadia.

You can't just say small models are more environmentally friendly to run in a datacenter, and then dismiss the possibility of *not* running them in a datacenter. I know and agree you can't run frontier on a user's phone. I'm talking about this exact claim you make below. bsky.app/profile/aly....
