i am once again begging windows users to understand that linux nerds give you instructions in the form of terminal commands because "paste this in" is a million times faster than trying to lead you through the gui one button at a time, not because the gui doesn't exist

"they should make a gui so it's easy for normal people" they did that thirty years ago motherfucker but you went looking for a nerd to give you advice and now you're mad that the advice you got is nerd advice. very sorry that you had to type chmod once and linux is bad now

i assume a common thread here is the sense of Knowing How To Use A Computer and then suddenly not knowing how to do anything and feeling frustrated and embarrassed and blaming the computer for not working the same way. not sure why this doesn't happen with macs though

i guess apple has this weird marketing thing going on that positions macs as a thing that is similar to, yet somehow fundamentally different from, A Computer. whereas linux is just something else you can put on a computer so obviously what you're left with is still A Computer

I have a cheat sheet. And as I found, most Linux users have them. There's also multiple ways to do cli commands too not to mention chaining commands to do multiple things all at once.

macs are also debugged easiest with the terminal but they dodge the scawwy cli problem by having laypeople drive out to """genius bars""" to do any basic troubleshooting so the wall is maintained.

as someone who works in it, as in turning screws and going over to coworkers desks and shit, ill tell you right now being able to show the user how to copy something into a terminal is easier for all parties involved rather than "ok so click this. ok now click that. no the - its ok we can fix that"

i factored in the time to briefly explain what im doing with the command when citing this example (which is why i said show and how, cause id be explaining what it does), i assume it could be easier/faster for the user if i didnt but thats irresponsible on my end
