They are so, SO desperate for people to resub. PLEASE don't resub your Nitro everyone. Props if you aren't already subbed, props if you were subbed and you unsub right now. NOTHING changes unless a company FEARS for their bottom line. Feel free to use Discord still, but don't give them a penny. πŸ’–

Discord is beta testing Nitro Squads for desktop users in Australia. Squads offers 6 users full Nitro perks, excluding Boosts, for $33.99 AUD (roughly the cost of 2.5 individual subscribers).

Happy to say I never bought Nitro ever! Discord always was where I kept in touch with friends and shared WIPs with them, but only on a free account. And even then, I've contemplated other alternatives.

Discord wants to implement age verification through IDs and facial scans, which in and of itself is a huge invasion of privacy that's made even worse with how god awful Discord's security is

I will never stop saying that Nitro just really isn't worth it anymore because you used to get a pretty decent library of free games with it. The most useful feature could maybe be the increased file upload size, but there are better free alternatives.

I'd like to add that I don't believe people should do the Discord Orb missions either, since all of those are advertisements. If you already have orbs, feel free to use them however you want, but don't get more orbs

Straight up not gonna resub ever again. I see them pushing ads on my discord more recently and it only makes me want to abandon this fucking platform more.

pretty much do what i always do.. so not much changes for me but i am *more* than willing to switch to root the moment i see persona again (the caught age verify AI bot thats holding the data for 30 years)

Cancelled my subscription through Google Play store the moment the age verification news hit my feed. Commenting this on here so the post may gain more visibility!

Ya, I miss my perks, but well...until they get rid of their age verification shit, I'm not gonna resub. I dont mind helping pay for sites I use regularly. But they gotta earn it.

Even worse, the custom join link? If your nitro lapses, someone can take your URL you've stuck in all your vids or business cards n shit and start scamming users trying to find your community

I was subbed but unsubbed when they tried to pre-emptively push age verification on everyone. I'm not resubbing until they drop it entirely. It's not their business, so they won't get mine.

I buy everything with their stupid orbs thing, and use pop out window mode on youtube (thanks Opera extensions) to overlay the video so no matter what they're trying to sell I don't see it and don't care, but they give me the free points anyway. If they want money, I make them BEG.

yeah but that just makes the people pay them to play ads, and then lose money because I didn't watch them, thus being less likely to want them to play ads on their platform seeing as all it did was cost them money with no return of investment

the snake oil of the ad industry is so convoluted that there is no way for them to know if paying for ads on discord is wasting their money, but it's still giving more money to discord and giving metrics to discord that they can use to tell other companies that people look at their ads

I unsubbed when they first announced their desire to partner with Palantir and still remain unsubbed when they went "Okay, we see you guys don't like this so we will delay this until the end of the year where we hope you'll be more beaten and battered and less willing to fight"

Okay, so not directly with Palantir, but they were partnering with Persona, a company who's gotten money from The Founder's Fund which has funded other shit like OpenAI, SpaceX, and Polymarket. And that Founder's Fund group is affiliated with Peter Thiel who just so happens is affiliated with

kotaku.comDiscord's Age Verification Has A Weird Link To Palantir's Peter ThielThe third-party company Discord could use for their ID collection is mired in surveillance concerns and links to Epstein via one of its investors

Palantir and the US's Pope Murdering Vice President JD Vance. So it's not complete misinformation if Discord (which had gotten hacked a few months, IIRC, before the announcement and shortly after the announcement.) doesn't fill me with trusting their eventual team up with some shady 3rd party.

The only reason I used it was to use emotes across servers. Emotes aren't worth the nitro and neither is having to surrender my id to use any app/website

I cancelled my sub a little while ago; it expired this month. I see the push to sub every time I make a reaction, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't tempted But until ID verification is cut out, it isn't worth it.

Also, if anyone needs emoji that badly: just find tiny gifs or upload ones yourself, click on the gif after it is sent in a chat, star it, then you can use a tiny gif for free without giving anyyything to Discord. Example:

Ive been using discord since 2018 and i never got nitro because 1 im not paying for that and 2 I am not up with the times when it comes to all the new ways to do things. I literally JUST downloaded cashapp last year and even then, I had no idea how to use it lol

But without nitro, don't you lose customization? Don't you lose higher video uses? Don't you lose literally everything without nitro? I don't want to end up like an NPC again, I am not Going back to being like a Fortnite default.

I am firm in my stance. I'm not returning to paying 'em. They didn't back down on ID verif, and they went to publicly traded. If my money meant so little and they want to be traded? Fine, I'll keep it for more commissions.

Haven't been subbed for months, it took a moment to get used to not having access to the custom emoji's and stuff, but now it doesn't even bother me. I'm not giving them any money until they cut the shit.

I've been doing them! (Well, not me, but a script I use and put into the console has)
