Let's get the Democrat elected first and then try to convince him to change his mind about the issues you disagree with. That will be a lot easier than trying to get a Republican to change their position on everything.

I predict you will spend 0% of your life trying to convince any politicians to change their mind on trans rights. You’re just trying to browbeat trans people into voting for transphobes.

Last time I looked, trans people buy groceries, fill their cars with fuel, take children to school, have day to day healthcare needs. You really want to blow up your chance for a better future because you demand ally-ship??

Just to turn it around, you listed a bunch of things *you* need and are telling trans people that the gender-affirming care *they* need should be on the chopping block for the things you need. I already voted etc. so you can spare me that part of the outrage.

He said in the ad he wants to cut off all federal funding to gender affirming care this would drastically increase the price on trans people even those who do not receive government assistance for such care.

Failure to meaningfully support, and even working against, a segment of your base could result in them abandoning you. That's the reality of building constituency. You need to get out of YOUR fucking silo and understand you can't abuse your base without consequences. YOU need to grow the fuck up.

Dean, as a cisgender Iowa woman, I would like to suggest that maybe a (presumably) cisgender man from a country with universal healthcare should shut the fuck up about how trans Iowans should be feeling about this. Shut ALL the fucking way up.

The thing he's proposing doing is a literal life or death issue, and instead of being a little shit about it maybe take the time to understand why trans Americans would be horrified at the prospect of their medical care being yanked from them by an unapologetic bigot.

Why do I have a responsibility to a community that has no equivalent responsibility to me? Solidarity is a two-way street. Trans rights or else.

My 🏳️‍⚧️ family, raising a autistic son, and right now we’re trying to raise $668.56 for car tags and taxes. Our car is something our family depends on every day. No car=homeless for my family $amybeth10 VENMO/PAYPAL LINKS in BIO $59 left to raise!!! PLEASE NO HATE & shares help so much too

I think about what really gets me is that it speaks to someone who actually DOESN'T know what they are talking about. 'Hi. I'm running on affordability. It's also why I support a ban on taxpayer money for diabetes coverage. I am someone who also suffered medical issues. Vote for me.'

It’s Democrats like this Turek jerk that makes me see how little freedom America has. As a communist, it reminds me why we’re better than the Democrats. In the US, communists are nearly unanimous in our support for Trans rights. It’s ironic since Dems think they support liberty, but we actually do.

Communists are vilified in the US but have any of you actually visited a communist website? Have you read about what we stand for? Does it surprise you to see that we’re at every protest against fascism? I know because I was there. And I say Trans rights are not up for debate. I say it with my fist!

Either trans people are a disposable group to Dems that they feel free to target, confident in their ability to entice enough bigots to offset losing trans votes, or trans people essential to their victory and for some reason the Dems think that they enjoy losing their rights and lifesaving care

Attacks on trans people are the wedge point of a global movement to strip ALL women IN EVERY COUNTRY of their right to bodily autonomy. A fascist in blue is still a fascist.

It genuinely feels like this entire Dem campaign this midterms is "We want to be transphobic now," This entire candidacy feels like it's exclusively Dems forcing their anti-trans ideology into everything. They want to be Republicans because they secretly support everything they do.

They're afraid too many candidates were leaning left are going to win and shift the party's direction and so they're getting their self-defense in first.

98% of elected Democrats have voted to block anti-trans legislation. It's always weird to see people represent the squishy 2% as representative and get upvotes. It's like they actually do believe in the slander of hate speech.

It's because these are DNC supported Schumer backed candidates with a high national profile who are all going transphobic at once right now as if they were getting marching orders. That is why people are upset.

Yes, but the problem is many of these Dems waited until they won the primaries before revealing their true colors. How do we find candidates we can support when they lie to our faces?

Start early. Show up to the town halls, the meet and greets, the events. Ask the question. When their door knockers ring your bell, ask the question. When you get campaign calls, ask the question. Keep asking. A non-answer is still an answer.

Theyre trying to pick up republican voters. They never cared about anyone left of themselves, just like republicans. They need the republican base to help them keep minorities down and they see this as a perfect time to make that play

So, is Hinson advocating for trans issues now? Has she disavowed her actual voting record on trans issues? Is she leaving the party that endanger trans lives with its hate and fear mongering campaign? How would she be a better representative for the Iowa trans community?

i live here and it's mostly culture war bullshit. he won because he managed to use scare tactics & location success (turek from a red area & won a competitive seat, opponent from the bluest part of the state) to make the other guy who is more progressive seem like an out-of-touch elitist

he was p quiet on the trans front esp when his opponent was pro-trans and actively voted against transphobic bills and his opponent opted to press him on multiple other fronts that generally have played better here historically without pivoting from a more progressive agenda (i voted for him obvs)

I was wondering the same thing and glad you answered that. Wahls seemed like a really good candidate after I looked into y'all's primary, especially for LGBTQ rights. But I'm from CA and we aren't any better about choosing a good dem in our primaries, probably for much of the same reasons.

Democratic primary voters are basically frightened children who vote mostly on "electability." Until that changes we will continue to have this same problem.

Relatively certain they'd see you donated *after* he ran the anti-trans ad and the metrics, if they did anything, would not do what you wanted

That affects hardly anyone. While wrong, Amy Hinson would go further to erode trans rights, AND take SNAP and Medicaid from the hundreds of thousands of the most vulnerable Americans. She would put America even deeper in debt, increasing borrowing costs for ALL Americans. See the bigger picture.

Amazing how we are simultaneously too few in number for policies that target us to be meaningful, and yet if we abstain from voting, we'd be the ones to blame for fascism winning. It's almost like you actually do need our vote and maybe don't be fucking fascists. Asshole.

I hear you, but Josh Turek isn’t going to send you to a camp. Even Centrist Dems aren’t going to invalidate laws that the Dems pass to protect marginalized communities, assuming enough Dems are elected to pass such laws. The idea that burning it all down is going to help the marginalized is fiction.

This is an essential seat for a Democratic majority. If Democrats hold the chamber issues like a national ban won’t come up for a vote. We’re lucky he hasn’t made more concessions based on public opinion. Very silly stuff
