Though I have wept and fasted, wept and mourned, I have not prayed For gods, like minds and bodies, Are not simply born - but made. The watchword of our elders “be gay, do crimes” Served well enough, for simpler times But let’s turn this shit to eleven: It's time for “be trans, conquer heaven!”

Only just occured to me today that most of my closest friends are female. Never really thought about it that much before, beyond just observing that I had friends of multiple genders.

I think I would have more respect for "you have to vote lesser evil" advocates if they in any way acted like they actually believe the word 'evil' when they say it.

If someone says "Both candidates are evil. I believe that, tragically, our least bad option is to support one - to essentially perjure ourselves by saying we want them in power. This is a horrendous state of affairs, which condemns our political culture and our pretentions to be a democracy."

Then, I would respect the argument - even though I would still largely disagree. But if you go round responding to people who say "this guy sucks" with "don't say that, he's the lesser evil!" - then I am forced to conclude that you don't actually believe he is evil at all.

Just thought "right, time to get on with some chores" but then accidentally thought a bit about how everyone in any position of power in both countries of which I'm a citizen is in a competition to demonstrate how much they hate me and think I'm scum instead.

movies need to capitalize on the lack of consensus reality. release a film with multiple endings. air them at random in theaters. Make everyone insane

This is completely correct of course. But also, even if compromising on sports would work, it would still be morally unacceptable.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

There are people, even some trans people, who think that we can give up sports to appease bigots. That if we give up on sports, this all goes away. That is a lie. I have reported on this for years, and EVERY state that passed a sports ban as a moderate compromise has gone on to pass worse.

If a bunch of athletes got together and told me they'd cut a deal with the fascists where trans people get all the rights we want except we have to be segregated if we work in software development, or when we play MtG, would I accept that? No, so I shouldn't expect them to accept the same from me.

Always slightly strange to see people talking about Trump's changes to the White House being tacky and remembering "oh yeah, you don't view the White House itself as incredibly tacky, do you?"

Went to a lovely trans+ pride event in Walthamstow today. Watched some cabaret which I was able to just straightforwardly enjoy, something I always had difficulty doing with that sort of queer culture stuff when I was trying to be a bisexual man.

Because I am an idiot, I asked some other people there whether the lower of this tryptich should focus on the harpist's feet or her knees. Because they were not idiots, they all told me the feet.

I have repeated the word that is my only stock and store and which you have probably mistaken for my name or prophecy Forgive me I was taught it by some unhappy master and will forget it nevermore

That "it's on Poob" post except for video game genres. It's an idle sandbox. It's a text-based flight sim. It's this year's best decremental bullet purgatory. It's literally a second-person olfactory novel. It plays similar to a mouse masher. It has meaningless choices. It has meaningless choices.

"Most stolen and hoarded wealth isn't just pretty trinkets, it's the actual infrastructure of our entire society. Seize that wealth and you're reclaiming control of the economy."

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.

it's hard to describe to young folks how cool airbnb was when it first launched. just weirdos and spare rooms for like twenty bucks. we stayed at a guy's house in oregon who was a "bear safety expert" and when we asked him what to do if a bear attacked you he replied, completely seriously "i dunno."

Airbnb is banning its hosts from making guests do things like “stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.” The hosts....are not taking it well: www.wired.com/story/airbnb...

This week I have sent SEVERAL Scary Emails advocating for myself. Everyone please tell me how brave I am (and give me something to do with all the leftover anxious energy)

Even if you wrongly believe trans people are delusional or whatever, a mental health charity offering support to people whose 'delusions' cause them distress is totally reasonable and wouldn't harm cis women at all. Their objection to it is based not on harm to women, but hatred of trans people.

Mark Grimshaw@markgrimshawtism.bsky.social

The Women’s Rights Network are now attacking the mental health charity Mind for supporting trans people with their mental health during a time of unprecedented attacks on their rights. These are the “legitimate concerns” “worthy of respect in a democratic society” the Labour Party has normalised.

Even if LLMs gave objectively better advice - of course they don't - it would have to be *way* better than advice from friends to compensate for what you lose: that getting help from your friends and learning through experience how to help them in return is one of the good things about being alive.

🚨 NEW POLLING🚨 AI is now so good at mimicking empathy that many people prefer it to their friends. 1 in 5 UK adults have used an AI chatbot for personal or relationship advice – and 54% of them found it more helpful than talking to friends or family.

The real story isn’t this, it is what happened after this as the BBC and other mainstream media platforms repeatedly platformed racists, transphobes and other fascists, including a disproportionately large number of appearances by Farage and Farage lackeys.

#Onthisday 2009. Nick Griffin, the leader of the British National Party (BNP), appeared as a panellist on Question Time The BBC's decision to invite Griffin was immensely controversial. His appearance drew a record audience of eight million viewers Full story: www.politics.co.uk/history/bnp-...

Sixty years, tomorrow. They gave the man in charge a knighthood. They made the local community pay for the remembrance garden. No-one held to account. I always think of the dinner lady, Nansi, who shielded five kids with her body and died in the process but they all lived. #Aberfan
