DMUv2 PATTERN IMPORT WORKS some instruments are a bit off and effects are definitely broken but IT'S MOON CHILD (WOAH OH OH OH)

oh my god oh my god oh my god

actually if you're mentioning him i might as well ask just in case he knows: what's the 7th byte in the DMU instrument structure intended for, right after the pitch table index and before the delay? it's the one thing that i haven't been able to figure out yet in there

I'm a bluesky n00b so can't see to what magic bytes you are referring too. 😅 Is it about some waveform/instrument effect? btw some instruments would be hard to emulate as Mugician had some 'waveform manipulation stuff' that I don't know if it has ever been used in other trackers.

oh! by "magic bytes" i mean the text at the beginning of the file header, in this case " MUGICIAN/SOFTEYES 1990 "; the 16-bit value immediately after that is set to 1 in nearly every file i can find

Okay if I recall, that was to see if a mod was supposed to be played with the 7 channel player. That player was one big hack. Piece de resistance of getting the last ounce of performance out of the mixer, mixing the 4 tracks from song2 into 1 channel in song 1.

that's... interesting, considering i see that same value present in 4-channel modules as well (i currently check for 7-channel/v2 modules by comparing the magic string because it differs slightly on those)

the other byte i mentioned (inside the instrument data) is far more interesting to me; it's set to 0 for most instruments, but a few will sometimes have different values (and this value is seemingly shown nowhere in mugician) i think i might recall seeing it used in conjunction with wave effects...

furnace actually has similar wavetable synth/effect functionality, and the primary author even said that its implementation was inspired by mugician's! that's part of why i chose furnace as the target for this, aside from it generally being very flexible to work with
