Politics is more clear when you remember that the "waste" in "government waste" is the profit that some rich asshole isn't making off labor in the public sector whose only purpose is the common good.

Notice how every single program, agency, leadership role & Congressional mandate 47/ Doge destroys, defunds, removes experienced labor, and claims waste, fraud & abuse benefits 47 or other billionaires?

Few get this. The government takes about 30% back from the nominal pay. So, actual costs are lower. This pay is then taxed at the state, local and sales taxes even. What is left gets spent pretty well in town across America. So, the game is not that things do not need to be done, it is profit.

The second i heard them use the word “waste” with no definition of what that entails, nothing else they had to say about their goals mattered. ‘Waste’ by definition is subjective and does not always mean ‘bad’. I mean, even cow dung and table scraps are useful for fertilizer and compost.

What America is waking up to is class consciousness. Basically what people and corporations will do if un-constrained by government. They will take away everything you have in order to make you beg for their money in return for anything they choose.

Had to read that a few times. You're saying... "Rich assholes want to make profit out of services people take as a public good, and seek to persuade politicians let them by framing it as 'government waste'. Politics should be understood in terms of this battle between the public good and greed."

Someone please look at all the thievery happening now. Trump is spending money that has not been congressionally allocated - $6 million to El Salvador or $12 million to El Salvador. No one is sure. He's been moving money around like a three card monte grifter.

Also remember that the oligarchs are going after state controlled resources as a means to more income because they lack the imagination to do it within the confines of a Democracy. We have pretty mid industrialists.

Privatization is inherently more inefficient because it also requires profit included in the cost. It's only better when the government does something so poorly that the improvement exceeds all the profit. I don't think it's always the worst choice, but I hate the mentality that it's always better.

if you want a good example of why private doesn't work, look at commercial air travel. airlines are racing to the bottom. passenger service quality consistently drops. they have zero interest in providing value for the money, or a positive service, regardless of their marketing blather.

Government is designed to have redundant systems built into it so that the system will work well almost 100% of the time with far less risk. Private companies are willing to take the risks that come with something working only 60-70% of the time. Like we want the FAA to maintain safety at 💯, right?

I find most people think government waste is like "I heard the DMV spent 500k on a training course for avoiding racism during basket weaving classes!!!!" where half the time its totally untrue and even when it is, that 500k class for an agency with a half billion dollar budget doesn't really matter.

And when these people who promise to cut all this wasteful spending and be able to lower taxes, they come in and find all the worst examples of waste added up together is like 2% of the agency's budget, not the 30% they thought. It's a lot like how people massively over-estimate foreign aid %'s

There is power in the ability to work without being a slave to profit. I've done environmental cleanup for over 25 years, and never once have I had to worry about making someone else money.

Common good and public food are not things this country cares about. These concepts are vilified. All politicians are against them. The GOP via trump is breaking with a sledge hammer. The dems are quietly watching. They sold science in the face when. They adopted Trump's playbook - don't talk,

don't measure, go by gut feeling, do your assessment with no data and guidance, long live King capitalism. People need to believe in shared things and inter dependence. Nobody is working toward this end.

Disagree. I consider "government waste" to be the cases where some jerk (often, but not necessarily, rich) *is* making a profit off of the public sector *instead of* its only purpose being the common good.

A lot of the time, those aren't actually $500 hammers, that's just what they put in to make the numbers add up. Whether those numbers didn't add up due just to someone messing up their arithmetic, or due to embezzlement, is another question...

Let's debunk 3 billionaire myths: 🤑"70% tax takes all income!" False—it only applies to income over $10 million a year. 🤑"Taxing rich is radical!" False—70% of Americans support it. 🤑"Wealth tax is unconstitutional!" Nonsense—we already tax homes via property taxes. #Resist bsky.app/profile/rbre...

The IRS unit that audits ultrawealthy earners has lost 38% of its employees this year. This will starve the government of revenue by making it easier for the rich to evade taxes — which the top 1% already do to the tune of $163B a year. See what DOGE is really about?

I once watched someone say that public water services are a waste of taxpayer money, not seeming to comprehend that what is inefficient and corrupt when a government does it is standard business practice in the private sector, so you should make it punishable to make bank from necessities

And "red tape" is the regulations stopping the same assholes using toxic substances in food production and threatening workers health to squeeze another few pennies from the consumer.
