I don't love it either, but I'm not sure how you tell a man that he should let his only surviving son rot in prison to respect norms, institutions, and the rule of law, when the country you devoted your life to serving just pretty comprehensively voted they don't give a shit about any of that.

It's not about what the country voted for: it's what each person stands for. If Hunter was convicted according to due process then he should serve his time, the same as anyone else. All Biden has shown here is his own corruption and openness to abuse of power. And enabled Trump's future abuses.

I'm not sure this decision is going prevent the Republicans who control the House and Senate, or the 6-3 Conservative SCOTUS, from restraining the Trump Administration.

Indeed. And the existence, and the internal power and cohesion of parties is something constitutional analysis consistently fails to adequately capture. But. It was enough to stop Gaetz, for example. And unless some in America hold to higher standards then Trump just sets the rules for himself.

Having allowed a president (DT)to put his entire family in key government positions, without having the appropriate credentials, any experience for that work, let alone a necessary national security clearence... is a scandal. Nepotism right under our noses and no one raised a cry! 😡🤷

The moral debacle on the GOP and followers by normalizing criminal or reprehensible behavior in authorities and public employees, the highly questionable and serious intervention in the internal politics of the "super rich" & external economic groups, in itself have already modified all the rules.

He set the rules already!! He transformed Scotus into a group of corrupt partisan judges willing to ignore the evidence of illegal acts he has committed and those to come. It was impossible to convict him of his crimes! Not to mention the GOP members of Congress.

The republican party believes Jan 6 trials were political theater; those people are all about to be pardoned in January, and I hope you’ve got the smoke for when that comes, but I think you’re going blame Biden for it somehow anyway.
