I have a question. Let's (absolutely wildly) assume: - An MEU of 2000-4000 troops can invade Iran (pop 90 mil); - Can hold the Strait (104 miles long); - Can prevent all attacks on shipping, including by drones; - Don't get picked off by drones themselves. What's next? Do they just stay forever?

I think the plan is they take an island, and the Americans have shown they can happily stay on islands they've pinched for a century or more

4,000 troops: so that would be, say, about 36,000 support and logistics troops in addition to that number, in a desert that will regularly be reaching wetbulb temperatures of 31+ degrees, with a hostile population and minimal infrastructure...

I think it's probably 4000 troops, 400 of whom are combat troops... Although I've seen the WSJ say 2500, (so 250 combat troops)... I'm starting to believe they didn't think this through

As you point out, a totally inadequate force to control even the Hormuz area. So Trump will have to send more soldiers. And more, and more... Quite a lot of unsuccessful wars start this way. Vietnam springs to mind, a few advisors eventually become a huge army. Sadly bone spurs missed that one.

More total idiocy, that have not taken one single lesson from the Ukrainian Conflict, to busy making excuses and Putin look good, your administration are traitors and thieves, and the thief in chief is a raging mentally unstable person
