I had temporary shepherdship of a green cheeked conure for a while and taught it how to talk he had a real mean streak once he hit maturity and would chomp you out of the blue without any good reason I miss my little buddy so much :(

They’re cute, but I keep telling my daughter that our 4 dogs and 1 cat do not make for a bird friendly house. She’s got the optimism of youth and is sure she can make it work.

Now I empathize more with the family the next house over with the loud-as-fuck cockatiel.

Why I've never had a bird bigger or longer-lived than a green-cheeked conure.

my favorite stories are the ones where a bird owner dies and is outlived by the bird and the bird just absolutely and irretrievably hates the shit out of its new owners, who it also outlives

I'd find a poduck zoo to take his ass so fast.

I live in an area where many parrots live. They are noisy and gregarious but most of all they are flock birds who need the company of other parrots. In the wild they live in massive flocks.

They just destroy things for no reason. They love destroying rooves. No benefit to them for food or survival, the little shits just do it for the fun.

Cockatoos require a lot of patience and work...not usually as friendly as macaws... And the boogers bite hard and viciously.

Too damn funny. Took care of a big bitchy bird named Doc for a few years. Once in awhile, like every few weeks she’d grab you by a finger and bite down just below screaming 😱 level and hold it. Please, threats, whatever, she would stare at you and you knew it was fun. For her. Then back to normal.

Also it can fly and bite your finger off, and it's going to be that way for the rest of your natural life.
