I FIRMLY believe the doodle trend can be laid largely at the feet of straight husbands who refused to get an *actual standard poodle* because “they’re dogs for girls.”

actually, the #1 minor thing I'm a huge snob about..... doodle-type dogs sorry, folks, i have to say my truth and my truth is that I file "knowingly obtaining a mini-merle-phantom-bernedoodle" away in my head with "people who only vacation at Disney World"

Meanwhile anybody who's actually met a standard poodle can tell you that they are wicked smart and territorial as hell which is exactly what that sort of person would want in a dog.

I can definitely see how it works for some people, but I am not one of those people. I already worry about too many things. I don't want to worry that the dog is going to figure out how to use the garage door opener and take itself for a walk.

I already have had a 4yo who can defeat any child proofing mechanism, I don't need one who is twice as big and 10x as hairy. By contrast my spouse's dogs have all been as smart as an empty coffee mug and we get along fine.

My dad's dog has learned to do things like sneak up on either one of my parents and bark just in time so that they are startled and drop food and he can steal it. Our dog can't figure out how to get steak out of the trash if we close the unlatching lid.

My mom's poodle was the best dog ever and also keeping him from murdering anyone was a full time job. They deserved it, but you can't just let your dog eat people.
