Nice! Powell’s is an awesome bookstore and granted I’ve only been to Portland once, but enjoyed it.

Bought this and read it last year. It is the saddest book I have read and it left me the angriest I have ever been with our politicians who are happy to allow Israel to continue their genocidal attacks on Gaza and now Lebanon. Israel behaves like its colonial creators did and still do.

The risk is worth it. It has changed the way I think about things. I NEVER annotate books and I couldn’t help myself on this one.

Could not agree more. It is essential for many reasons including the distillations of white privilege. One of my biggest takeaways is that the spineless Democratic Party actually needs to stand for something other than fundraising emails and texts. Stand and deliver.

The intersection of journalism and power structures is such a fascinating rabbit hole — especially how western liberal frameworks can inadvertently perpetuate the very systems they claim to critique. Sounds like this author really unpacked those uncomfortable contradictions.

Yeah. It’s absolutely devastating, and an awakening. I can’t stop thinking about it, like his line about needing to stop the murder of our citizens by…murdering and destroying others 10x (paraphrasing, his words are much more eloquent and beautifully crushing)

Thank you. I will definitely read this book. As it was published in 2025, the cover was designed before the attack on the girls’ school in Iran. I know attacks like this happened in Gaza at that time, but it’s still chilling to see it in an image. We in the West have to unlearn, then learn again.

I believe the point of reading books like this is to learn stuff, question it and perhaps change things in your life. I get the sense that some are reading this and getting “republicans bad, democrats good” out of it and not really learning anything.

Absolutely. A book is a success if you start to think about stuff while reading but don’t stop when you are done.
