Going to the movies is a luxury. Perhaps now more than ever, a film's box office performance has little to do with its quality or worth. I'm not a fan of these movies, but I do hate this "Ha ha, that movie sucks because it didn't make enough money" mentality many people seem to have these days.

Agreed. IMO they shouldn't have released all these movies so dang close together; I can barely earn my next paycheck by the time the next one's out. I think this is the real reason why box office performances are suffering right now more than anything else, Supergirl included.

Been a supergirl fan for a long time, didn’t even wind up going to see this one. It’s like every new piece of pop media is the same thing, everyone reacts exactly the same way, regardless of what happens. Like a treadmill.

Credit card debt is way up, people are struggling to pay their bills, expenses, healthcare, etc. If anything, releasing a movie on July 4th weekend is probably the worst time to release a movie this summer.

Ope, careful now. I’m told that buying snacks at the movie theater is unnecessary, and that we should go to theaters even though we can watch stuff at home now because, um, uh, umm, uhhhhhh,

36.4 million is about how much it costs to take the family to the theater and buy snacks. If you include gas to get there it is even more expensive. Grabbing a bite with the family before or after is even more. It's not the movie, it's that most people are broke as hells.

Make tickets and in-theatre food more affordable and you’ll find people going back to the movies. There’s little to no draw to get people to spend that kind of money when streaming services stream new movies two weeks after they leave theaters. Also, Hollywood making good movies again wouldn’t hurt.

If there was honest accounting in movies, this would be well on the way to making a profit. Unfortunately movie accounting is a corrupt practice that makes it impossible for all but a few freak occurrences to show profit on paper. The studio system lies.

I think big budget movies wont be able to gather much profit anytime soon, because "in this economy", thanks to profit hunting corpo monopolies sucking up all the money with grifts and corrupt governments that assist in it. Especially the US People just can't afford as much as 7-8 years ago.

If we’re talking about the franchise as a series, yes. Jump the Shark cause #3: Main character leaves the series, leaving the producers to reboot the new spinoff of supporting characters, pretty much destroying the original concept.

I'm going say this forever the minions are only funny in small doses in the actual, Despicable me movies. Making them the focus was a good idea for parents who just want to distract their kids but not for having an actually good movie.
