That is indeed - he was originally planned to be an extra controllable character in the game (as you can see in this demo), but was dropped eventually in the final PC edition.

3 weeks ago. A new and excitingly diffrent meme was born. And then. It spawned a whole passionate and amazing community on moonchild and his buddy hoi. So insane to see once a hyper obscure game. get Large amounts of popularity in under 3 weeks don’t ya think?

Considering I've seen versions of the game that allow you to control a little dinosaur that's following moon child, you do literally "have the power to be his friend".

Wow, thanks for sharing this. The dev - Metin Seven, who seems to have done pixel art for the game - posts other pieces from the composer, Ramon Braumuller (including a different version of the Moon Child theme). This guy's music is absolutely kicking. Top tier.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I can tell looking at a playthrough of the final PC release, that version of the song isn’t in it. The title theme has “Moon Child, whoa-o-o” but not “You got the power to be his friend.” Kinda ironic since that’s what people know him for now.

I love that Hoi is there too. Hoi is actually one of my favourite platformers, because of all the crazy ideas it constantly throws at you. But specifically it's the AGA Remix version, it needs unlimited lives to work (in that sense it's like a lot of modern indie platformers).

I can only speak for the PC version since that's the actually playable one, but it is a pretty typical europlatformer of the era, perhaps a bit out of date even, but the smooth animations and the momentum-based movement did make it an enjoyable enough experience. I never did complete it, though.

I completed it finally. It's a tough but doable game, and honestly I'm a bit shocked it wasn't a little longer. Though, they would've had to have rebalanced the difficulty a bit, if that had been the case.
