VoidZero is joining Cloudflare. Our mission stays the same: to make JavaScript developers more productive than ever before. Vite, Vitest, Rolldown, Oxc, and Vite+ remain MIT-licensed. Evan and the VoidZero team will continue leading them.

Name one team acquired by a large corporation that has gone on to do greater things. Just one. Obviously things like GitHub and NPM are the counter-examples.

@svelte.dev and @nuxt.com are doing pretty well!

I've not used Svelte at all and dabbled in Nuxt years ago, but no more than that. So my knowledge of the two and exposure to their communities is limited.

None of them are German and joined a platform that happily hosted content from neo-Nazis

Are they though? 😅

Absolutely. GitHub has been thoroughly trashed by Microsoft's leaching of the service with AI: 1. AI settings that MS don't really want you to have are routinely reset to the MS-preferred default. 2. The poor quality introduced by the use of AI-generated code has caused frequent instability.

As for NPM, which was acquired by GitHub prior to being taken over by Microsoft, the regular pollution of dependencies by nefarious hackers is barely even news any more. Unfortunately, it appears that Microsoft has no interest in combating the issue.

In summary: the interests of big tech are not aligned with the interests of the services that they acquire. GitHub is nothing more than a source of training data and NPM is being allowed to wither.
